Why is ESP activating after new lift installed?
OK group, I searched the forum, but I didn't find a specific answer or root cause to this problem.
I installed my new 3" FT Ultimate lift and 35"MTZ's last week and now when I am completing long sweeping turns (Freeway ON-Offramps) my ESP engages as if I am losing traction. This is not the case, I am simply driving 30-40mph on dry pavement in 2WD. Have any of you experienced the same issue and what have you done to eliminate this problem? BURNDOG |
did you correct the steering? mine would only do it when i turned to the right but it was ok going to the left. once i got the wheel centered again, haven't had anyproblems.

Make sure your steering wheel is dead center. When I put my 2.5 BB on my ESP would go off but after I put the trackbar bracket on it took care of the issue.

happened to me when i did my lift. straighten the steering wheel out. that will solve the problem. there is a write up on it. it's really simple.

very common problem, very simple fix.
The procedure for recentering your steering wheel is here: Basic Do-it-Yourself Jeep JK Wrangler Front End Alignment |

mine did it on my 2" lift. I still need to tweak it some, but it's close.

Also, you may want to take it to the dealer and have them reflash the computer for the lift using their nifty StarScan tool. There's a TSB out about it.
Edit: I had it done when I put on a 3/2.5" BB and it still came on periodically, but after I took it to Moab it hasn't been on once since. |
???
lift flash??? The only one I am aware of is to permanently disable the ESP... |
Burndog. I experienced this exact same problem. An alignment alone isn't going to solve it. Reprogramming the ECU with my Hypertech didn't take care of it either. I had to get front adjustable upper control arms plus an alignment in order to correct the problem. When you lifted the vehicle, it "rolled" the axle forward. Putting the adjustable uppers on will allow you to "roll" them back. I got mine through Dave at Northridge. Hope this takes care of the problem for you. I still get a minor stutter around a certain corner near my house but not anymore on the on and off ramps.
