Default Willys/GPW/MB style bumper...

Now for all of you Willys enthusiasts, I know that Willys did not come with these bumpers but it was the only way to grab your attention...

So what I am thinking about doing for a custom rear bumper is to buy some OEM replacement bumper hoops for the GPW or MB WWII jeeps and mount them to a plate where each hollow bumper mount comes out of the back of my JK. I am looking for some input as to any problems I may face doing this and if anyone has any ideas to add to this creation in my mind. I understand that it wont actually be amazingly strong but i think it would look good and allow me a step on each side of the back of my jeep. This is the hoop that would be on each side. Thanks for the help.

These are called " bumperettes" , they are readily available frm Quadratec ,many others. I think they would look great, make good steps too.

Thanks man... I knew someone would take an interest in my endevour. I looked at the ones from Quadratec and they are a much better deal than buying a set from an original resto company for almost double the cost and not powdercoated. Thnaks for the info man, and since i havent seen this done on a JK yet I will post pictures as I complete the project.

I diffentally interested seeing how it comes out. I actually wanted to install the older style front numbers on my jk as I hate these plastic and complex looking aftermarket ones. Never thought of doing the rear. Great idea

That's a cool idea. I like mixing a little of the old with the new. You couldn't get away with this on many vehicles but with Jeeps it works. Here's my input..when you get the bumperettes, get some steel plate or diamond plate, lay it on top and trace. That way you can cut it out, weld it to the top, and have the step you're after.

So this is what i came up with as my product. I like the look alot more than the big clunky plastic bumper cover. All i did was cut up some plate steel and weld it to the chassis as a bracket then bolted the bumperettes into place. Let me know what you think.
