WINCH help!!
winch is next on the list. Dont really know what to get. 8k?10k? 12.5k?
synthetic? wire rope?
warn? superwinch? smittybilt xrx8 / 10?
Wheelin more often, usually with more than one person. Ive seen majority people running the smittybilt XRC 8 wire rope winch. will i ever really need a 10k or even 12.5 k? So many brands. Looking for an inexpensive with (with quality) that isnt over kill. Just the right amount(maybe a little more) i need.
also, is having a synthetic line that big of a difference other than wieght?

I have the smitty xrc8 with a wire rope for my 4dr, never used it because I dont get stuck lol.. but its nice to have. rule of thumb is to go with at least 2.5 times your jeeps weight as far as winch load goes so the 8K works, but it doesnt hurt to go bigger. If I could do it again, I would look at the recon winch that comes with a synthetic rope for under $450. hope this helps.

Synthetic rope is the way to go, it's easier to work with, does not kink, less dangerous if it breaks, the only con for me is the initial cost, but they are still better than steel cable. WARN has a new series out that is a little easier on the wallet and they have a mail-in rebate of $80 right now, check them out.

9-10K. Warn if you can afford it (or, even if you can't afford it, your winch is a serious piece of regularly used gear--such as for a rescue volunteer). Synthetic line if you can afford it because not only is it lighter, but it's safer on the hands and if it breaks, and because it's easier to work with (doesn't kink up). Do be careful with it abrading against objects--but a good synthetic line will come with a Kevlar shield to protect it. The Recon winch, mentioned by someone else, is a good alternative if you're an occasional winch user. Certainly not a Warn, but the synthetic line and wireless remote do make the price very appealing.
Ive got a Rugged Ridge 10.5k. Everyone says just buy an 8k and a snatch block, but when you dont have enough cable to snatch block, then youre screwed.
Buy as big as you can afford. They rarely weigh more, they just pull a little slower. WARN isnt as high quality as they used to be.
If I bought another winch it would be a Mile Marker with new solid state technology. No more solenoids, selectable pull speed... Awesome.
