My friend is in a tight spot and wants to sell his Warn XD9000 and accessories for $500

I am new to winches, and was planning on researching them by fall...

So my question is: Is this all worth $500? Especially when you can buy a new winch for $300 (not warn)
He bought it used and hasn't even verified that it runs...
I've seen some videos online with guys servicing/rebuilding them.
Is there anything I should look for or inspect? Can I completely rebuild it and would it be worth it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

I have the xd9000i, its on its second Jeep and has seen hard use. Id say yes its worth it. I would probably still try to talk him down to about $400 though. I think I payed $650 for mine when it was new.

Yes, very good winch, and parts are plentiful for them. Hands down a better winch than buying a new entry level one.

Where did u find a NEW XD9000i for $650? Attachment 469398I bought my jku with the winch already on it. So I did research on the winch and haven't found one cheaper than $1100. The powerplant in Warns "flagship" the xd9000i is just one step below that.... U got a great price!

OP--The xd9000 goes for around $1000 new. Of course I agree with rob and say try and get it for $400 but 5 is a good price as long as it works. Just hook it up to any battery and test it.
The only difference between the xd9000i and xd9000 is that the "i" model will work while submerged. It has a sealed control box.

Definitely worth $500. That synthetic line alone is $200+.

I bought an older xd9000 for $500 and thought I got a good deal!

Thanks for all the responses.

When I buy it, should I tear it down first? Or just run it till it stops? (don't fix it if it aint broke)

Its on its second Jeep, the winch is about 15 years old. I think I bought it from Desert Rat.

Sweet! Then I know mine will last me good and long! It's gotten me outta some thick stuff too! Just took it apart last week because I couldn't get it into free spool, lubed everything up good and it works like new!

They will zap a battery fast so you have to winch in timed increments, but they pull really hard.
