Just installed my XRC8. I was wondering what the advantages of mounting the solenoid on top or on the side are? Also if anyone mounted it else where I would be interested.

 

That is the winch I want to get. Let me know how it works out for you.

 

No real benefit to either position other than if your winch bumper has a hoop or not... I did mine off to the side.

 

I went with side mount to keep access to the top of the drum/rope.

 

I mounted on on the side for now. I was wondering if anyone mounted it inside the hood? How hard it would be and then run cable so i can operate from inside?

 

I mounted mine on the side, had to re-wind mine by hand once due to the clutch getting "stuck" in the freespool position, and it was a PITA with it mounted over the spool. Moved it to the side after that.

 

No choice but centered on top with my River Raider stuby. Love it all the same.

 

I wanted to mount mine on top of the cable, but because the controller plug is on top on my version, instead of on the front in all the pictures online, and since I had a RR hoop, it wouldn't plug in.

So I had to put mine on the side, at an angle.

 

Same winch I want to buy. going to mount upside down and mount the controller inside the engine compartment.

Shame 4WD Hardware had these on sale for 10%off and free shipping for a couple days last week.

Do not know how I missed it. Would have ordered with that deal.

Ow well keep looking till I get one in that price range.

 

i got mine through them. you might contact them with this info and see what they can do for you - they are pretty good to deal with. also, i'm interested in your ideas on mounting in the engine compartment as this would be something i am interested in. not sure if you know how you would do it yet, since you don't have the winch, but if you do have some ideas i would like to hear.

just about to mount mine and was thininking of going with it in the center, but i have the same set-up as xerofall and am not sure now what i'll do. i did notice that xerofall has the hoop mounted with the top leaning towards the front of the jeep. mine leans back, so maybe i'll have clearence but don't know yet. i'll post up when i'm finished.
