Your opinions of the Bestop Trektop
I've got a 2010 2dr Hardtop JK Sport that I'm looking to get a summer soft top for.
I like the styling and the pricing of the Bestop Trektop. If you didn't know, one trait of the Trektop is that it doesn't use any additional hardware to maintain shape, it simply bends around the existing rollbars.
With this in mind, I'm concerned how it will hold up for some freeway (~55mph) driving, and the occasionally rainy, windy summer days in the Pacific Northwest. I've read there used to be concerns with water pooling, but that this may have been fixed with straps, and also that the rear window has some awkward method of staying attached. Beyond this, I'm clueless. Any insight?
As far as my past soft top experience goes, I've driven a TJ with the factory soft top and thought it held up very well on the freeway, if this helps anyone make comparisons.

I got mine over the winter and put it on this spring and I love it. Different look and lots of complements... Some things to consider though.. Mine does pool up a bit when it rains but a quick bump of the gas or turn air on for a sec and it's clear
. Never has leaked at all anywhere. It's not all that convenient to take off and store in your jeep. You still have the header bar that you have to keep with it so it doesn't fold up and store as nicely as I imagined. More like hauling a rolled up rug around. The other frustrating part of it is the back window business that you have to unzip it to put anything of any substantial size in the cargo area and if you have the rear bar then putting stuff back there really becomes inconvenient. Highway speeds it works great. I found if I only have the front windows open it slaps against the stap and gets noisy but if all windows are down no flapping at all... and if all windows are up it is really quiet for a soft top. Turn the air on lowest setting and it pops up like a balloon. In my option it shows how sealed it really is... Finally, in my opinion it takes longer and more work to remove and put on then the hard top but being able to have it for the surprise rain showers is worth it all... And it looks awesome!
As for leaving them on, the header is part of the top and held on by snaps. So you could remove the header, I just rolled mine back with the top. The rear bar works just like the factory soft top bar, unhook pull the bar and take down the window. So long story short no you wouldn't be able to leave them on with the top off.
Hope that helps
Brian
We just got a Trektop for our 2 door and it's great. The only issue we've had is the bar above the rear window...it's fallen twice since we installed the top a month ago. The bar inserts into two slots on either end of the top. This is either a newer design or different from the 4 doors...not sure which.

The TrekTop- like all soft tops I've used over the past 30 years with Jeeps - are built for all uses including slow rock crawling and highway use.
I love mine. I find it quieter than the factory soft top.
When you run with it, keep the AC on, and the pressure inside keep it from fluttering aorund, no matter what speed.
I also lost a ton of squeeks and rattles once the factory surrounds were gone.
Rain is a little difficult, as it will pool up. Other than the rain issue, I love it. No leaks like some report too.

I've had mine for about a month & love it. It looks GREAT! It hasn't leaked a single drop...even in high pressure touchless car wash. It's a little loud at the corners of the windshield header but...it's a soft top. I expected some noise. Other than that it's quieter than my old TJ soft top.
I run mine with the top rolled back & the rear window removed a lot to avoid taking the whole thing off & storing it. It does take longer to put back on than my TJ soft top did but that may get better when I've done it a few more times.
Good luck with your decision. It's a tough one. I waffled back & forth for months before pulling the trigger. But I am happy with my decision to go with the trektop.

I just took the Trektop on a 1,000+ mile trip to Big Bend and it performed flawlessly. There's definitely some wind noise, but that's the ONLY downside I encountered. Well, that and you can't open the windows at 70 mph because it flaps like crazy and threatens to blow off.
The rear tailgate bar IS INCLUDED and functions fine. There's a bit of a trick to opening it, but you'll find it easy after 2-3 times doing it.
I washed the Jeep when I got it home, in the driveway. No leaks. It's an awesome top. Well worth the money.
