Default Alignment/steering weird after re-gear and other work

Recently re-geared my 2016 4 door JK to 4.56s It’s on 35s with a 2.5 inch lift. Along with the gears I had the front inner axel seals replaced and master bearing/install kit also. Also purchased AEV Procal to adjust for tires size, new gears etc. After work was completed driving home I noticed the steering felt “loose” - it didn’t pull to one side or another, but it was difficult to make small corrections to stay in the lane, if that makes sense. Just looking to see if anyone has had similar experience. Thanks!

No other work done at all right? Usually, what you think of as "loose" steering is actually "tight" steering, most commonly experienced after brand new ball joints. To re-gear, the only thing they would have needed to do is pull wheels, brakes, and unit bearing to get the axle shafts out, and the TR to have clear access. the master install kit is just part of the re-gear process, and the seals wouldn't have any effect at all. Even with brand new BJs, that tightness dissipates after a few hundred miles. I wouldn't freak out just yet....give it a little time to see if it gets better, although not quite sure why the steering would be tight if that is all they did.

Correct, that’s the only work that was done. I wasn’t too sure if any of it entailed anything that would “mess” with my steering which is another reason I was asking. I haven’t even gotten it through the break-in period yet so your right, I might just be freaking out a little too early.

How much actual lift did you get from the 2.5" lift? If it's giving you 3" or more, you may now have too little caster which will make the vehicle feel flighty on the road. If you don't have many other additional equipment, i.e., added weight, you likely have much more lift than 2.5". May do you some good to put it on an alignment rack to check the caster. If it's too little (below 4.2 degrees), then you many want to look at options to add more caster back in.

I might have read the original post wrong. I read it as though the lift was already installed and this was just a regear and seal replacement. If the lift was just installed at the same time, y, change in caster post-lift could be coming into play a bit vs. what you were used to before.

Hahahaha. Now that I've read it again, I question if I read it right.
