Future First Timer from Oklahoma
Hello.
Long time lurker, first time poster. By the end of the month I will be a first time Jeep owner. Having a 5 year old daughter and the wife most definitely wanting more snot-nosed clean house ruiners in the future, I need something bigger than what I'm currently driving.
Right now I'm driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado RST. It took me almost a year to hunt this truck down and it's been my baby ever since.

I'm really going to miss it and it breaks my heart to even think about not having it anymore, but if I'm going to get rid of it for something more family friendly, I definitely want something I will thoroughly enjoy owning and driving. I've been fascinated by the JK Unlimited since the first time I saw one. I've told myself if I ever have to replace my truck, that's what I'd replace it with.
At first I was going to buy a used 2009 or 2010 until driving by a dealership on my way home a few months ago and spying one of the Sahara Tan models. I instantly fell in love, and was just as quickly reminded of the Land Rover in Ace Ventura 2 (no, I'm not comparing Jeeps to LRs, I just love the Ace Ventura movies):

That changed my mind right there, so I'm sold on the 2011 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in Sahara Tan. I know, I know. From my months of lurking, I'm well aware the consensus here is that they're horribly ugly with the color matched top. In a way, I agree, but for some reason that's part of what attracts me to this configuration.

Finding one in automatic is no problem, but I refuse to drive autos because I easily grow bored with them. So tracking down a 6-speed manual is appearing to be a slight challenge, though my local dealership has no problem if we have to order one through Jeep.
Either way, I'm excited at just the thought of owning one. No top, windows down (or doors off) and cruising with my 5 year old in the back seat, both of us loving every second of it.
I want a Sahara model over the Sport and Rubicon because adding the luxury items I want on a Sport would bring the price up to just shy of a Sahara, and while I will go off road while camping/shooting/BS'ing on weekends, I won't be doing any rock crawling, so a Rubicon is just overkill for me.
Sorry for the novel of an introduction here, but it took at least a week for my account to be approved for posting and I'm going to try to make every post count.
Questions/comments/deragatories you want to throw at me? Fire away!

Welcome Terry. I see your in Edmond. I work down the street from the Purina dog food plant on Lincoln Blvd.. My boss just bought his wife an 11 Sahara in the Tan color. There is a bunch of us Okies in the Midwest section on here if you decide to look us up..

I looked through some Midwest threads and saw the OKC Military Jeepers photo albums on Facebook. Looks like an absolute blast. We used to take my step-brother's 80s Dodge Raider out to Draper (you'd be surprised what that ugly box is capable of) a few years ago and that's the last time I've really been off the pavement. I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
