Hello All
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, but bought my JK Unlimited X new in Oct of '06. I always said if they release a 4-door Jeep I'd buy one (coming from clapped out CJ5) and they did, so I did, and I love it today as much as the first day I bought it. It's more "beat up" than back then for sure!
It remained stock height on 315s (with lotsa rubbing and no rear fenders
) until now. I've been lurking here in the shadows and have seen some threads I liked, so I came up with my username and signed on to see the pictures and things. Stock height with 116" wheelbase = high centered, a lot, hence the username, just twisted a little.
Knowing we were needing new tires, the wife has been saving money without my knowledge. She had been asking me about lifts and things like which one's best etc. I told her I liked the Rock Krawler stuff and showed her the website, but told her all the top brands are good. Then she asked about the difference between long and short arms, all in innocence. I had no idea she had some money saved up. I was eyeballing cheapo 4" kit, just to get some clearance for H1 wheels/tires. Well, a few weeks ago she says she bought me a present and won't tell me what it is.
Last night she drops the bomb that she bought me the 5.5" X-Factor Long Arm system and Bilstein 5100s, and a Warn M8000! A bit overwhelmed, I started developing a plan of action and will be building a winch bumper soon to get my welding back up to par as it's been a while. I'll also get as many of the lift brackets welded on as I can before complete disassembly as I don't have my drive shafts yet (next month).
We've had the trans cooler dummy indicator light come on twice now on the trail, so yesterday I installed a cooler. Seems to work pretty well so far.
Future build plans have always been:
build bumpers
set up suspension system
1 tons (which is why I didn't buy the Ruby in the first place, but I didn't plan on it taking this long...) I've had the 14b for a long time, but both 60s I have are the kingpin passenger side drop axles not the drivers drop. I thought I had a line on a Superduty 60, but it didn't happen... Still looking for a deal.
42s-ish
I'd love to have a Rubi Crawler
etc.
Pretty much the standard capable build...
Well, I don't know much, but I enjoy wheeling, hunting, fishing, etc with my family and others that enjoy these things too.
Here's a vid of me making "the step" on the Charleou Gap trail north of Tucson back in '09 I think- bone stock, but with 1/2 tread Pro Comp mud terrain 315s. Turn down your volume. The wife is kinda loud behind the camera and some people didn't appreciate it.
