Oh I agree with you 10000%. I want to do it the right way. That’s why I’m doing my research now before I get there, so I know what I need. Now I know I’ve been talking about 35” tires, but what if I went with a 3” lift but with 33”s. Will I still be looking at regearing or is having 33”s a different pall park?
You don't need to re-gear with 33's and you wouldn't even need a lift. You may need different wheels with less back spacing if you are planning on running a wider tire like a 33x12.50x17.

It pushes the wheel out further from the axel allowing more clearance for a wider tire. If you do not have the correct back spacing you will be rubbing your tires on the frame every time you make a turn.
