Kansas Jeep Newbie
Hey guys! Stumbled on this forum today trying to determine how much sag a new bumper/winch is going to give me. I appreciate the detailed posts and it was pretty welcoming to not see any question bashing.
I look forward to kicking it with y'all and hanging out! Side note: Upset there is no Willy's Wheeler 2Dr love on the trim list.:wink::bleh: A couple pics of us getting it dirty last weekend: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jk-...4d54ad633a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jk-...de2bd4ee4e.jpg |
Welcome to the party!
In case you didn't find an answer: I measured before and after my winch, and lost around 1/2". Probably about that much for the bumper as well. It certainly aggravated the factory rake, that's for sure! |
That is what I was definitely hoping to avoid... so assuming I'll lose about an inch. Easy fix with a spacer, but I was hoping to not have to.
Thank you! |
Welcome... I will say you loose an inch too... unless it is really a cheaper light one... then if you add a winch, it will need a spacer- or you could buy the springs from a Rubicon JKU... that avoids the spacer and will give you an inch plus a bit.

Full/mid/stubby, steel vs aluminum, build quality / metal thickness, winch capacity, wire vs synthetic rope, whatever else. Just saying that how much height someone else lost may not match up with what you lose... |

Remember to read into any replies you see as there are a bunch of different bumper and winch options, and weights could be all over the map.

Ugh, the spambots are out in force today... :gak:
But for 4Valhal: I replaced my springs with a set of 4-door Recon springs, gained almost 3 inches in the front and 2 in the rear, and that was AFTER I had already weighed it down. It works well for compensating for the extra weight, as well as giving me some extra height to run 35's (and I guess a slight improvement in geometry). Doesn't do anything for articulation of course, but it was cheap and easy and will hold me over until I can scrape together the cash for a proper suspension setup. |

I'm not sure I'm wanting to go that high just yet as I'm on the 32" stock tires. Hmmmm lol. I really appreciate the help y'all! |
Yeah, I think I went a little overboard on the springs... the 4-dr Recon springs are about as stiff as they come, and a little taller than normal. It's not too bad though. Since I've only replaced the springs, but no other suspension components, I don't actually have any changes to stock articulation, though it's certainly screwed up my caster a bit. Doesn't ride quite as nice as it used to, but I was really surprised at how small the difference between stock and "lifted" + 35's really was.
So here's a string of comparison shots: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jk-...c93cf5fec5.jpg Stock height, stock tires https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jk-...cebfdf0594.jpg After spring swap, but before tires https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jk-...f841a983f8.jpg "Lifted" with 35's |
You ended up with a beefy looking two door, that is for sure! You've definitely given me some things to think over now. My bumper and winch will be here this weekend, just gotta determine the suspension planning or decide if I'll even care...
Jeep is like Barbie... except the accessories cost a lot more. :bleh: |
