Default New from DFW

Hello,
I'm new to the boards. I don't have a Jeep yet, but will get a 4 door soon. I'm aiming to build something that can handle the stupid daily traffic in Dallas as well as get me off the road and out to unwind. Functional first, looking good at some point after that.
Open to suggestions on good suspension setups that will clear 35s, 37s, and 40s (options for each size) that ride well for daily driving but also get the job done in the mud and dirt. And when I say ride well, I mean for a Jeep....not a Cadillac. Ha.
I've been reading up on here. But if anyone has links to really good threads or write ups, I'd appreciate that too.
Thanks!

Welcome!

I just spent the day driving around Dallas, Irving and Ft. Worth today and saw a lot of modded Jeeps. A couple on 40s which surprised me, some on 37s, most on 35s and one that still had a temp tag on. With the traffic up there if you go with 35s or bigger I would look into a big brake system, if you off-road with 37s or larger you will really need it.

Show us some pics when you get it!!

Default Thanks!

Yeah, there is a wide range of Jeeps around here. I know some that were only washed upon delivery to the dealership to ones that are washed daily even though they never leave the pavement. Haha.
I definitely plan on bigger brakes since I'll be adding weight and the rotational force. Although I'm sure the aftermarket bumpers could do some damage to the cell phone drivers slamming on their brakes around here, I'd rather just be able to stop in time. Haha. I saw a lot of cool Jeeps out at Texas Motor Speedway over the weekend and will be at the Collin County Jeep club meet tomorrow.

The best d.d. in traffic will be stock. Maybe stock will also do fine for you off road. The bigger the tires , the longer your stopping distance will be. The bigger the tire, the less mileage you will get. The bigger the tire, the faster things will wear out. Consider stock first and keep it that way until you really need something else.

I appreciate the response. I understand that stock will be the best for daily driving and mpgs. But I'm not buying a Jeep for MPGS anyway, it will get even worse than my Magnum RT. Haha. Bigger brakes are on the list, so that will help offset the heavier tires when stopping. I'm just aiming to build it for some fun Offroading, but something that isn't so extreme that I can't drive it in traffic when I want to. I know these are pretty capable off of the assembly line. But I also don't enjoy stock vehicles. I have friends with Jeeps and I want to be able to hit the same trails they do. And stock won't get through all of them. Some of them have TJs and YJs, so obviously the setups are different. Just looking for more input from those that are running the JKS. Thanks again!

Get a Rubicon and get further down the trail than your buddies, even in stock form.

This!
You would be surprised how capable a stock Rubi is. Especially if you are a good off-road driver.
