Default New to JK

Good evening,

So I am new to the JK. I’ve previously owned several 2000’s Cherokee Sports, a 1997 TJ with the 4 banger, and a 2023 Wrangler Unlimited. I traded the 2023 for a 2022 Ram 2500 6.4L due to the birth of my third daughter. But I miss having a wrangler and I’m going tomorrow to purchase a 2008 Sahara Sport with 142k miles. The Jeep is very clean. The only flaws it has are the front two seats being very worn and no carpet(plan to rhino line the floor anyway). Is there anything I should look for specifically when I go to pick this up tomorrow? They’re asking $10,500 for it but I got them down to $8,000. I’m hoping to go there with $7,500 and my trailer to bring her home.

Welcome to JK Forum. 3.8L - do not be surprised with the level of power; it is a good engine - dependable and sturdy.

thank you. I can’t wait to get it. Every weekend I’m going to be doing something to it. I already have a build list lol. Once I sell the Camaro I’ll really have the funds to upgrade it quite a bit. My daughters will have much more fun in this than my Camaro. They’re actually pretty scared of the Camaro lmao. It’s more of a race car than a Sunday cruiser. At least with the JK we can go wheeling or take trips down to the beach. A ton of my friends have wranglers too and every weekend about 20 of them go wheeling

Here is my current build list. Once I sell the Camaro my plan is to get this stuff little by little.

Very good parts on the build list.. I must ask.. are you planning much Rock Crawling? What size tires are you thinking? Check your gear ratio? I've read that up to 35s work fine on the Dana 44 rear and 30 Front - bigger work many things very hard. Less lift, perhaps 2.5" ? The higher the lift the more adjustments will be in order.. Your build should be based on your Use.. Trails -- Rock Crawl -- and how much Daily driver..

Just picked her up. There is a slight oil leak so I’ll need to replace the valve cover gasket asap. I’m going to order that tonight. I have an appointment to title and register it tomorrow and I’ll be on the road! I also got her down to $7,000.

I won’t be daily driving it too much. It’ll more or less be for weekend wheeling with occasionally trips down to the beach. I’d like to build it to have no issues crawling at Rausch Creek in PA. I will probably do 35s but contemplating 37s. Yea I don’t want to go too high with the lift. 3in lift most likely.

First order in the books. Going to change the oil, oil filter, air filter, degrease the engine, and change the valve cover gaskets since there is a small leak. I just noticed the soft top isn’t put together well so I’m going to buy a used hard top and put a hard top hoist in my pole barn. I have someone driving 7 hours to come look at my Camaro. If I can sell that this weekend, I’ll have the fund to buy the lift and Dana 44 asap. I bought this skid plate because the gas tank skid plate on there now is completely rusted. Thankfully that’s the only rust there is.

Thanks! It was an older lady driving it so it has never left the pavement. The only thing wrong with it is an oil leak, which I believe is the valve gaskets. She said it’s been like that for quite some time but just got oil changes frequently. She had a massive stack of paperwork from her oil changes and services, so that is a plus. The only thing that scares me which I didn’t feel on the test drive was a slight vibration going down the road around 50mph, once I hit the gas a little bit it stopped. It’s coming from the engine. But I only took it down the road today to get gas bc I know it’s low on oil from the leak. I’m hoping after I change the oil, filter, gaskets, tune up, etc that goes away which I’m sure it will. There are no engine lights, runs great, shifts great, etc. I’m also going to try and fine a used hard top this week. I found one for $700 so I’m hoping to pick it up. I feel like that’s not a bad deal. My brother is also going to be giving me an off road front bumper for free!!

Going to pick up that 3 piece hardtop tomorrow. Got him down to $600. Feel like that’s a good deal!
