Newbie
Getting ready to purchase a new JK. I haven't had a Jeep for the last 15 years and I'm really undecided whether to go JK or JKU. Normally just me or two of us but I do expect to do some climbing with it so I'm kind of leaning towards the JKU.
I know your opinions will be somewhat biased but I would appreciate any comment.

I am from IL as well. I ended up going with a 2-door after a fair amount of thought on this issue as well. My reasoning was this... I had a TJ and prior to that I had a Tacoma. I went from the Taco to the TJ because I wanted a shorter wheelbase for going through the woods. Most of our trails (Michigan and Wisconsin) are snowmobile trails so the turns can be very tight making the 2-door a better choice.
I do have 2 kids, both stil in boosters, and they fit fine. The main downside for me is the lack of space for camping gear when I take the whole family on the trail. But I can add a rack to fix this or just flat tow the jeep behind my van.

Hello and welcome.
Our opinions will be biased, because I like what I like and they (the rest of the community) like what they like.
Take a good long test drive in a 2dr and then a 4dr. Pull in and out of parking spots, put the rear seats down and look at the cargo space in both, get in the back seat and see how that feels, stop and pick up some total strangers and take them for a ride.........OPPs, that's what I did on my test drive, I don't recommend that.
Anyways, decide what you need and buy the one YOU think is best suited to your needs and tell yourself everyday after you have bought it, it was the right choice.

Had 2 drs in the past (all that was available) so I'm familiar with the limitations. I def like the look of the 2dr better but my main concern is climbing in the west. 2dr better for switchbacks and 4 better for steep rocky climbs.
Just can't make up my mind. Primary use is a road vehicle with one or two people. Occasionally will have to pick up grandkids.
