Default Deal Breaker

I just read that the 3.6 offered in the 2018 JL will come standard with ESS- that's electronic start and stop. Meaning, you come to a stop, the engine shuts off ( larger batteries keep all lights, etc on) . Foot off brake, engine restarts.
This "feature" can be turned off, but only for that ignition cycle. Supposedly added because 1mpg gain in City Driving.
To me, this adds a layer of complexity that I DON'T want in a vehicle that will be used off road.
Other deal breakers for me would be ;
Replacing the E Brake LEVER with a Switch. A "Parking Brake " (solenoid operated) is NOT an Emergency brake that can be used to control vehicle independent of Foot Brake.
Replacing Transfer Case LEVER with a Dial. More "sensors" and electronic complexity.
The ESS is the only confirmed add-on, the other two are speculation on my part; IF they show up for 2018 JL, THEN I keep mine, or buy last year of JK, also 2018 .
The Suspense is killing me.

Definitely agree. Buddy had to drop his JK off at a dealer for radiator repair and was loaned a grand cherokee with that start/stop feature and said it was a bit weird. Also agree with the e-brake and TC levers if that is true.

Do you happen to have a link to that article?

I guess that's how you increase MPG by almost 80%! Throw in some aluminum and call it a day.

Thanks. I noticed I misread the original post and you were just speculating about the e-brake and TC, but I think that's a realistic thought as they are putting that electronic e-brake in the other vehicles.

Do we know if the ESS is only the 3.6? Or other engine options as well?

One more reason to get a manual transmission in the JL.

That ESS would be fine on the street, but I have major concerns about it when wheeling.

Good News !! The JL will not only have a Folding Windshield, it's designed to be easier and quicker to lay down !!
See website previously mentioned for Details

I like the ESS. I would never have it on my vehicle but im in the buisness of selling car parts and i do sell these batteries and i get a nice commission off them : )
Dont know what ones the JL will use but the other smaller cars ive seen with them sell for about 125 / 150$ a pop.
