Regearing Shops in Bay Area
Looking for any suggestions for shops in the Bay Area that can do regearing. I'm not a 4 wheel parts supporter due to issues I've had with the San Jose store, so I'm open to suggestions.
I'm going to upgrade from 3.21 to 4.56 gears in my '13 Sport running 35" tires. Also what have you guys paid? |
My shop is in Fremont. Full service auto repair. I do it all. I can give you a quote on Monday. Let me know if you are going to supply parts or if I need to get them.

ProLine Accessories, San Francisco
Rear End Specialties, Santa Clara Arabia's Overkill, Campbell I and others I personally know have used ProLine. Other friends have used RES and Arabia's. I can't remember what paid (3 yrs ago). |
The Rearend shop
The rearend shop in Livermore did my jeep 456 installed $1550.out the door. They treated my jeep as if it was the own.
Would not go anywhere else. |
I had mine geared to 4.56's up here, so no experience with those shops. But had it out the door for just over $1600. And that included basically a complete rebuild of both axles, oh and a new carrier up front since I have a D30. So, R&P, front carrier, all seals and bearings for front and rear. Obviously not all of that was required, but if the axles are going to be apart anyway, may as well put all new parts in there. But mine is also an '08 so I already had 36k miles on it at the time. If it was newer, I would not have bothered with new everything. Included a warranty and fluid change after break in at 1k miles.
Bit more than some others have paid, but I was very happy with the work. And I love 4.56's with a 6sp. |
Thanks guys! That helps. I really wanted to make sure that I get someone who's done it before.

Rear end shop in Riverbank by Modesto did mine for $1200 out the door. Not affiliated with the Livermore shop! That guy used to work for him. Excellent work on both my gears and later my ARB locker.

Isn't there a break in period for new gears? Drive 20 miles then let them cool down before doing it again for 100 miles. Choose your shop with this in mind.
