Seeing as how my username involves skiing, I feel like i have should input haha. From your original post you ski mostly the same things i do, are the same height as me, and weigh a few pounds more. For length you want something in the 170-180 range if you want a good all purpose ski. Length isn't the only number that matters though, you have the width of the skis which will play a huge role in the handling and abilities of the ski. Also the shape of the ski will greatly adjust how it handles on different terrain. I have bought/rode over 15 different pairs of skis from all different copies in the past 3 years, I rent skis on long trips and buy my own for regular use. I ski mostly east coast where most of the snow is man made so it is a heavier and icier snow, but on occasion i travel to vermont to fulfill my powder needs. I also travel to Aspen and Vail to ski too. My all around favorite ski is the Atomic Bent Chetler in 183. The bent chetler is personally made and designed by Chris Bent Chetler. It is an awesome powder ski due to the rocker in the ski as well as the sizing underfoot. Due to the camber in the ski and the angle of the sidewall though it can still carve very nicely on packed and icy snow. It is twin tipped for reverse riding and can be used with ease in the park for small tricks. With all the positive there is negatives too however. It is an expensive ski and you will ruin the ski if you use it in the park. It is made for powder and trail skiing. Look up some videos and you can see Chris doing backflips in the back country on the ski, not in the park. The sidewall will rip out if you try to do any type of grinding with it and by doing excessive jumps and landings you will take out the rocker and camber and make it useless. If you are looking for a cheaper ski that can handle its fair share of powder and park/trail abuse I would suggest looking into the Armada El Rey in 171, which I rode for several years, the Armada T-Hall which I ride now, or the Armada AR-7. All 3 are excellent skis. Salomon and Atomic make excellent skis as well. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, I also work at a ski shop sometimes and are very good friends with the owners as well as several other ski junkies.
