Those suction cups look a bit weak for trail use imho., moreover the three bottom ones are pretty much useless on most dashes.
This is what I ordered now after fumbling around with sticks and bungees:

I bought the mount from Adorama in NY for about $125: http://www.adorama.com/BG3289.html?s...ion&item_no=13

SeaSucker makes an option as well. I haven't used it personally, but I have friends who have used their other products on their boats and they have all had nice things to say about them.

When mounted on a smooth surface, i.e. windshield or door panel its not going to come off when properly mounted. I bought one of the suction mounts as referenced above made by Bogen/Manfroto and is bomber. A standard size consumer video camera with this mount is not going to come off when driving on the trail. I have used mine in the snow, sand, hill climbs and rock crawling without a single mishap. Anything short of a rollover, that mount is secure. I too was skeptical initially about the security of this mount but I have no hesitation attach my a video camera or 35mm SLR to this mount.

It's VERY sturdy. the cam is like bolted to the Jeep with this one...
Here is a small video clip taken with this mount, some harder trail use will show up as soon as I have time...
