So I remember Hilldweller did some comparison with your Phase 5 lights and JW Speaker and there was a definate hot spot in the center. I saw the Phase 6 lights corrected that issue. (Great job BTW) But now that you have gone with a completely different design, do you have any picture to show the light distribution?
I am also shocked to see you go from the previous 10 LED light to just a 2 LED light. Has your lumen output decreased? What is the new lumen output and kelvin rating of the new lamps? Will these carry the same 3 year warrany?
Are you changing the design of your 4" passing lamps aswell?

Default New Headlamp Design & Output

Hello all. Thanks for the great feedback.

Our new generation of LED headlamps will have the same effective lumen output as the previous generation, despite using two diodes rather than ten. The new diodes and circuitry are much more advanced than those used in the existing model (the light output of the diodes is far more significant), and they operate at a considerably lower amperage draw. However, lumen output really isn't a great indication of a headlamp's performance. We could triple the lumen output, but "putting the light in the right places" is what makes the lamp effective, and there are minimum and maximum candlepower levels required to meet DOT specifications. The visibility example (pattern photos) will really answer your question. The optics used in the new headlamps are designed to create a cleaner, smoother pattern, without any hot spots or banding. They meet the same white color temperature as the last lamp, and offer the same 3-Year warranty.

We'll be posting the exact amperage draw, photos of the light spread, and even the lumen data once the final production lamps come off the line, for everyone interested. We're waiting to use production samples rather than prototype runs.

Also just to be clear on operation. Is one LED low beam and two LEDs high beam?

We're glad to help. Yes, the new headlamp also runs illuminating the top half on Low Beam, and the full lamp on High Beam. The appearance of the new lamp offers a much darker, blackout look when it's off, due to the black internal components, and reflector optics.

Hello,
We did respond to each of these questions in length (check out thread response #57 and #72), but for quick answers:
1) The price should be in line with our previous LED Headlamps, but we don't sell direct, so you'll have to get that from your reseller.
2) We're awaiting final production-run product before taking any photos that we'll be posting of the light patterns, but you'll see that the light spread, while still white and daylight-like, is a cleaner, more evenly spread.
3) We have heard of a few instances of flickering in the past, and that should not change with the new headlamps. That issue is more caused by a pulsing (PWM) electrical system, and has little to do with the LED lamp. The LED technology responds instantaneously to power, so a pulsing electrical system (which was added years ago to make headlamp bulbs last longer), should be turned off. This can be done through the vehicle's computer, and requires no wiring changes or modules that way.

We'll have more information soon, and I'll be sure to post it to this thread when available.

Looking forward to seeing the production version of these headlights! I've been admiring them for a while, will definitely be interested in seeing the performance of the 2 diode system, as well as the darker overall color that you referred to.

We're expecting the new lamps to launch and reach the storefronts in the first quarter of 2012. When something more concrete is available, I'll be sure to let you know.

I'm not familiar enough myself to advise on how to turn off the PWM, but I've been told it's a pretty easy task at the dealership. It's done exclusively through the computer. There might also be ways around the PWM if you'd rather not visit your dealership, but our technical support staff would be best to advise. You reach them at 888/562-5012, or tltech@truck-lite.com.

I personally havent heard of turning off the PWM at the dealer or what they would charge to do this. But it can be done yourself as well. The cheapest way to do it is cut the power wire and install a capacitor inline. It will help to limit the PWM effect but isnt a true fix. The other way is to install the Rallylights relay for Jeeps. Then you can pull the power directly from the battery (constant 14.2v) and still keep all OEM switch functionality.

They're tested against sand erosion as well (additional US Military testing was done for this in Yuma Arizona), and they've performed very well. In fact, over 300,000 of our headlamp/auxiliary products have been used in Middle East combat situations by the US Military, and the troop responses have been nothing short of incredible.

The Polycarbonate lenses perform better than glass, so there are no current plans to make a change on that front. Let me know if you have any questions.
