Default Need help removing stock mirrors

I was practically dead lifting my jeep today by the sideview mirror and I can't get it to let go. Any tricks? It's unscrewed. 08 jku sahara

Search this forum, there are a lot of discussions on this topic. You aren't alone, it's not a simple task...though it should be!

Remove the screw from the underside of the mirror. Open the door and remove one of the bolts that holds the mirror housing to the door from the inside. You will notice that it is longer than the one from under the mirror. Take the longer bolt and thread it into the mirror about 3 turns. Take a rubber mallet and hit the bolt that should be sticking out until the mirror pops out. Be careful the mirror may jump, if the bolt pops loose. If the bolt stays in after the mirror pops, Unscrew it and remove the mirror. It takes more force than it should but I've done mine a number of times without any problems.

Good luck

I have broken two T40 bits just trying to remove the screw from the bottom of the mirror. I'm afraid the head is going to strip out if I keep at it.

It's almost like a once a year maintenance schedule to remove the mirrors and put marine grease on them. Also look into drilling out the mirrors to allow the water to drain as this is where the problem stems from.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Mine is an '08, but I've only had it for a year. Looks like non of that type of stuff was ever done and it spent most of its life in Alberta...rust and corrosion everywhere. PB blasted and pray I guess.

Default Removing mirror mount

So my mirrors are attached to the frame. I’m having a hard time getting to the screw on the underside of the mount. Any suggestions?
