Default Sides of stock radio are dimly lit?

I don't know if this belongs here or not, but the end few rows of pixels on both sides of the stock stereo are very dim and often hard to read. It has been that way for a few years and I have been ignoring. I recently replaced my battery and terminals and thought it might also fix the issue but no dice.

Is this normal? '08 JKU with RES (non-functional uConnect with no SAT)

My 2010 has the same issue. The first three columns are dim.

Normal for age of radio. Same on our 2008 with 135k miles. We're going to eventually replace the head unit with something modern.

I guess I've replaced mine enough through the years that I haven't seen this on my 2010. You can get the baseline radios for cheap. I paid $15 for my last one and it had 11 months of Sirius left on it.
