Lightbulb Torquey Cams for 3.8L motor

Hey my Fellow Jeeping Brothers and Sisters. I"m looking for a Cam to put into my brand new 3.8 engine that is replaced the recently hydraulically locked one being taken out. Can anyone recommend a good cam, that comes with a piggyback chip for the tune. An application providing more torque would be kick ass. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, from a brother downunder!

Nobody makes a camshaft as of now. You'll have to get one reground. I have the desktop dyon program and have extensive camshaft knowledge. If you want to tell me where you want the power to be, I can plug some specs into the program and at least give you some specs to get an old cam reground to. Of course, I can't promise it'll work with a computer, but I imagine someone out there can write a chip for it.

Damn, that's a shame. I was hoping to get one whacked in whilst my mechanics are rebuilding the block! OH well, I'll just have to stick with what I've got. It's far too difficult in Australia to try and outsource parts. I actually wanted a V8 Hemi in there, but too difficult, and no one would do the change over. Thanks so much for your offer Rob, I really appreciate it, but I'd rather just get the bugger back on the road!!! Cheers mate!

There is a high performance cam available from 505performance.com. If you go into their online store and look in the 50 hp category there is one listed in there for the 3.8 for $225. It is listed as giving an extra 20 hp over stock.

If you decide to get it definitely keep us up to date on whether it makes a difference!

This will quickly go beyond the cost of the cam which I have no confidence that anyone can deliver a workable solution with a cam alone. It's going to take a plethora of parts ranging from new springs so you don't float the valves, more compression which means machine shop work, better rocker arms to support the additional load, spring retainers, timing chain, a tuner and someone that can actually do a custom tune on the PCM. In all your looking at about $2,000 in parts and labor to get this done, and that's doing all but the custom tune and machine shop work yourself. You might even be actually able to climb into the 25-30 additional horsepower, which give you a cost/value equivalent of $40 per 1 hp.

Or, you can just buy a Flashpaq and get 15 extra hp for $300 and be happy.
