Ordered this kit moments ago. After seeing that fire this weekend, it shocked me into the realization that I've been pressing my luck not having an extingiuser with me.

 

Where do you get a fire extinguisher "recharged"?

 

I bring mine into work when we have the fire extinguisher guy come once a year to re-certify all our fire extinguishers. There are also plenty of places in the phone book for carry in service. A bigger question is are the ones you own designed to be rechargeable.

 

I've had mine there sense the first week of ownership, I had an engine fire is a past car and with out the on board fire extinguisher it would have been a total loss.

 

There are specific fire extinguisher companies that obviously vary based on where you live. You can go to your fire department and ask them for recommendations. And maybe you'll get lucky, in a previous place I lived the fire department actually did the recharging.

 

I was shocked into realization last year when I had to put the fire extinguisher to use. I was running I guess what you'd call a prototype to this kit at the time. We were on a trail and spotted a fire under the engine on a TJ. I was able to grab the extinguisher and have the fire out before the driver of the TJ could get his fire extinguisher (I don't remember for sure, but I think he had a rollbar mount).

It turns out the fire was caused when a cable pulled loose on the power steering. The fluid caught fire on the hot engine. Luckily I got the fire out before it did anything other than cosmetic damage.

 

I like this idea. I have my Streamlight flashlight mounted under the drivers seat. Will this kit work on the passenger side as well?
