Default How many hours to install a hemi

How many shop hours does the install take? Assuming the Mechanic has done several. I'm thinking of doing the used 5.7 thing and wondering how much the labor is going to cost me. I've found a motor and tranny, and I'll use the AEV kit.

if they have done several and a good shop with a lift and depending on how they do it (lift body off or take entire front end apart) and if they work full 8 hours a day maybe 3-7 days.
from what i can tell the most tedious part is getting the 3.8 out. hopefully someone else can chime in who has done one.

I think they take the whole body off.

if they take the body off then it would probably go quicker. its a pretty straight forward process, just gonna come down to what kind of shop it is. do they work on 4x4 stuff only or do they do brakes and stuff too?

My at home conversion is covered here

I would say 4 days. That's with nothing going on but working on the JK. Not hard, just time consuming. I wouldn't even consider doing it without separating the body and chassis. What a time and back saver that is!!

If you drop it off at AEV it will take about 12 hours.

x2.

As the OP said, whoever is doing it must be experienced with this swap in order to do it efficiently. I know that I could redo my swap and easily cut 1/4 of the time off.

I didn't have 4 or 5 full days to do it so I spread it out over nights and weekends. Don't forget to count in shake down and testing time.

I just finished a Hemi install at home and left the body on.

I used a 2007 Commander 5.7 and trans. I spent several hours on the engine changing the oil pan, replacing the P/S pump, cleaning it up, etc.

The install took me about 35 hours, I'd guess, spread over 7 days. Much of that was time to figure out various details / fill in the gaps in my JK, Hemi, and AEV kit knowledge.

It was a pretty easy job, really, and I could shave quite a bit of time off this if I did it again. It's a bit of work, but not hard.
