Default All Roller Fairleads Are Not Created Equally

I was in the process of installing my Smitybilt XRC-8 that came with a roller fairlead. Being that I live in NY, I need to have a front license plate. So, I purchased the Tough Stuff E-Z Flip license plate bracket. To My shagrin the bracket didn't fit. The bolt holes were correct and the fairlead bolted to my bumper but the distance from vertical roller to vertical roller, on center was 3/4" smaller than I needed.
Since... I have purchased a fairlead from a fellow JKer off a Warn winch. Good to go.
Who knew that all roller fairleads were not a standard size?

D-cell maglight clips bolted to the plate will grab the rollers and keep the plate legal.
Thats how we roll in Ontario

I'm hesitant about anything smittybilt. Every time I compare it to a "real" brand, it's just plain obvious its inferior. I compared the Smitty snatch block to the ARB...goodness, quality of the ARB was like a Ferrari to a Kia.

Yeah, I had to send the flip back also since it didn't fit. I opted for making my own and saving $45.

x2 the D-cell maglite clips and a cheap license plate bracket did the trick for me as well

I understand that there are other ways to affix a license plate to a fairlead. The point of the post was just to find out if anyone else knew that roller fairleads were not made in a standard size.
