driving lights or fogs?? help...
i was thinking about putting a small prerunner on the front and putting lights on it. i bought the xb package because i was on a 18k and under budget and it didnt come with fog lights. it gets really foggy up here so i was debating on the fogs but then again... the headlights arent the greatest and i cant use my KC 130's all the time so i was thinking about driving lights. but what about snow and heavy rain...? im at a complete loss for what i should do.. any reccomendations? i also noticed that the driving lights and fogs are both 100 watts. whats the difference?
The difference between driving lights and fogs isn't really brightness, it's the angle and distance of light. Fogs throw light at a wider angle but not very far - that's why they are typically mounted lower to the ground. Driving lights have a narrower beam but the light travels farther. So if you want to light up the area in front of your Jeep at the ground, get fogs. If you want to get something that lights up farther away, get driving lights. PIAA also makes sort of a hybrid with the 520 ATP, which I have, and its lens falls somewhere in the middle. Hope that helps.
I have used a set of those hybrid lights because they provide minimum glare against snow and heavy rain, but their wide angle mid range lights up the sides of the road very well so you can spot pedestrians in town or deer on the road (or viceversa
) a lot easier.
They are a good compromise if you are undecided.
