Default Flowmaster?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been a member here for a few years but never needed to ask anything as it is pretty much covered may be a stupid question...so I have had my JK for three years now and decided this week to go with a new muffler..wanted a more aggressive sound than the go kart stock engine..the guy at the muffler shop said he could get it tucked up nice and neat in the stock location which he did..nice clean line back there now...I did not expect any great gains in power or fuel..did not do it for that reason...I have had it on the Jeep for 2 days now..just curious if anyone else who went with this setup noticed any power loss on the bottom end..kinda like less torque..or do I need to give the muffler time to break in..if mufflers do that..I have 4.10 with 35's..never semmed to be an issue before..could be my imigination as I have not had time to really run it out..single outlet..not dual..I know this exhaust thing has been hammered before and I read where some had lost power with a dual set up but not on a single..just curious..Thanks

i just did mine to but put my flowmaster in the off road location where the stock location for the evap is. I felt the same way sorta but couldnt tell if it was just me but after about a week, i noticed a lil better gains than before i did it. Its not much but i think given the pipes a lil time it will be fine. The flowmaster sound def makes it sound like a jeep now and not a bored out vespa

I have seen a few posts regarding Gibson dual exhausts and low end power loss, but this is the first I have see on Flowmaster.

If you run a few searches there are several threads.

Exhaust system backpressure needs to be carefully tuned. Converting to dual exhausts, cat backs and flow throughs can change this pressure system significantly. Since you just replaced the muffler itself, this is a bit surprising.

Which Flowmaster model did you install? A 40 or 50 series? Delta Flow?

there is a break in period, i had a flowmaster delta 50 on my old jeep and it took a couple weeks to break in and you can smell the insulation stuff burning out. once that stops it will have a slightly deeper sound too

Its a 40..yeah I do smell it burning off.. I felt stupid asking but it did seem like I lost some low end power.....I will run a few tanks of gas through it and see if it gets any better..but on the plus I do like the way it looks...I can;t see it so it looks clean back there..

yea just wait for it to finish breaking in, you should feel more low end torque if anything

The Delta Flow 40 is on the aggressive side the sound scale. So if you the sound of the exhaust is deepening, then it is still breaking in and performance may vary.

When the bark tone is steady then the break in is complete and your performance should increase at leastl slightly from stock.

As you said give a couple tanks of gas and pay attention to the exhaust note.

How is the interior resonance (drone) while cruising with that muffler?

Honestly right now I really do not notice it in the cab unless I turn down the radio...but it has been real windy here also...I have not noticed any drone inside..it has been cold here so in the morning while warming it up I have noticed a nice deep tone while it is at iddle..
