Default Bigger tires w/o lift?

Hi All,

I'd like to change my rims/tires on my JK Sahara, so drop form 18" rim to 17" and put bigger tires without a lift and having them rubbing, if possible!

Let me know if someone did it and what’s best? Like do I need spacers...?

I'm new to mods!

We all make the mistake of not reading the FAQ. I made it a few days ago.

on a 17 inch rim you can fit 285/70R17, which is a 33x11.50 or 33x12.50 (with spacers).

Regardless of the rim size you use, you will need lift/leveling to go beyond a 33" tall tire.

From a width perspective, you will need spacers with the stock wheels or wheel backspacing of 5" or less to run 12.5" (315 mm) tires and some 11.5" (290 mm) wide tires.

Dropping to a 17" tire lower the cost of the tires and expand the choices available.

35s will rub on the body and fenders without a lift. Stick to 33 if no lift.

Here's mine on 315/70/R17 MTZs without a lift, you can see its close. Was OK road driving alone, but it did rubwith flex, and rubbed on road with buddy's loaded in Jeep.

Here is the thing....... Dont spend money on things you wont to change any way..... If you want biger then 33's your not going to be happy with smashing 33's under there. Save up get a lift and through on 35's you can get a BB for under 400.00

33s will look great with a 2 to a 2.5" BB. Smoe people rather have 35s under there.

Personally I have wheel spacers and will be getting 285/70R17 BFG KM2 tires and running that for a while until I save up for a 2.5" BB, new rims, 35" tires, and 4.88 gears all at once. By the time I save all that money up, the 33's will be bald.

I like the look of it! That's w/o a lift or spacers? 315 is this not bigger than 33"? Anyways I'd be happy w/ a look like that! Plus I'd be less worry for my xended warranty... if anything happens...

315/70/17 is a standard tire size but they run at different diameter between manufacturers of 33.75"-34.5" My MTZs at 27psi run on the low end at 33.75 diameter.

Yes that photo above is with no lift and no spacers, but as I said earlier it did rub with 33.75" actual tire diamter. Since that photo I chopped the fenders (it still rubbed) and then added 2.5 Teraflex coil lift - now much happier, current below :
