Okay so who is feeding me a line of bs?
I was under the impression that you could not use shocks for a lift with a non lifted Jeep.
Well after talking to both Skyjacker and Old Man Emu, both claim the shocks they sell for a 2 inch lift will work fine and without issue on a stock suspension.
Does this sound wrong to anyone else?

It all depends on the compressed length of the shock. If it is short enough that the axle hits the bumpstops befor the shock completly compresses, then it is ok. I believe the regular, not LT, OME shocks have the same compressed length as the stock shocks.
can't speak for skyjacker but the standard OME shocks are factroy length and those will work just fine up to 2" of lift. the OME LT shocks are a different story as they are "long travel" and thus, too long.
they are long travel shocks meaning that they have a longer shock shaft. this will give you more droop but in order to accomodate them, you will need more lift as well as without it, you would bottom out your shocks.

All shocks have a range of lift they can support.
That range is usually 2-3" for shorter shocks (closer to stock) or 3-4" for longer travel shocks.
If you are near the boundary of either range you can go with either shock. This allows you to have more as less drop as WOL described.
