Question Coil spacer, body lift or new coil and new shock ?

Hi All !

I've got a JK 2010 2 doors and want to lift about 2-2.5 inch. Wnats the better choice between these options ? Keep i mind that its my daily jeep and do not need to climb Rocky Mountain or stuff. Just some mud terrain and snow party.. I'm looking at the Rough Country "Series II" kit include all the relocation shock bracket and a 2.5" coil spacer for 179$. Is it a good choice for a daily usage Jeep ? Dont want my Jeep to have a weird on-road handling or something.. If it's possible, i want to keep or have better on-road handling. Can you "hint" me since i'm new in the Jeep world ? Thanks and this forum ROCK'S !!!!

33". something like a 33x12.5 r17 on stock wheel. ( not sure for the stock wheel but for now i guess i'll leave it on stock.)

Money is not a concern.. just want to have the better handling possible on road and off road and want the Jeep to look cool too. I heard/read that a body lift is not a smart choice, so coil spacer with stock shock or simply new coil with new shock without spacer... wondering if there any difference on the road for both option..

well, if that's the case, you can practically run them stock. installing 1" body lift will definitely give you the clearance you need and will not effect your ride/handling at all.

Welcome to the Jeep world!! Before you narrow your search to one specific kit, I'd suggest starting with the FAQ's up at the top of this section. Get an idea of what size tire you want to run, then look at what size lift you'll need, then look into what all of the components do and decide which ones 'you' will want.

And then... start narrowing your search to specific kits. Do Not buy a kit simply because you see the low low price! Look at what is included, decide what you will want to add, or what handling you are willing to live with.

While you are browsing the faq's, be sure to pay attention to this one: "Q: What is Caster? How much do I need?"
Most of the lifts in the price range you are looking at will tell you that they are complete, and that you will need nothing else. Go back and read that Q often!

If you're going to a 33", you can get something like the TF Leveling Kit and you'll be happy with it. As WOL said, a 1" BL can also be done. I ran 33s with stock suspension and no BL, had no issues. I went to a TF BB since I knew I was going to 35s after the 33s wore down.

Ok I understand your point of view all. BUT.. if i want to lift my JK for the look ( and maybe bigger tire than what i said before..) with a 2.5" coil spacer.. Do the on and off road handling will be seriously degradated ? I read on this forum that a 2.5" will not affect the axle or driveshaft. So if I want to lift the Jeep whats my better option regardless of the tire size for now ?

Daily driving Jeep in mind..

If you go with the cheapest lift you can find, you will find that your handling will suffer. It's just an unavoidable fact that the higher you go, the more you have to do to bring you back to that 'stock-like' handling.

With 2.5" spacers:
Both axles will be shifted to one side. How much this will affect you is for you to decide. Do you want a kit with no axle centering? With a rear trackbar bracket? Front and rear brackets? Or adjustable trackbars to re-center the axles? Up to you.

Your swaybars will both be angled down. Does the kit come with longer rear links, and allow you to move the stock rears to the front? Does it come with new links front and back? Adjustables? No links? Again, up to you how much that will affect you.

Your caster will be low. (again, read the FAQ section on caster!!) Your handling will be more flighty, you have to decide if it is bad enough to warrant new components to correct it. Options are Cam Bolts, new longer/shorter fixed control arms, new adjustable control arms. Again, up to you how you deal with it.

Your brakelines may be stretched too tight. On-road only, this may not be an issue. Off-road, you will want to run down to the hardware store and make some extension brackets. Extended brake lines would be the other option.

Does the kit come with extended bumpstops? On-road, probably not an issue. Off-road, these will keep the coils from over-compressing and the tires from ripping the fenders off. Do you need them?

How about driveshafts? Read the sections in the FAQ's concerning this. Do not just assume that with only 2.5", you will not need them. (just because someone else didn't need them does NOT mean that you won't...)
