What transmission do you have and what size tires?

yes, what size tires are you running now and depending on what kind of tranny you have, that'll make a difference as well.

Judging by his profile, he has a 6-speed and 33s.

So...

If you're NOT going to upgrade to 35s, 4.56 is great for 33s. If you're going to 35s, 4.88s.

Open the Drivetrain section in the FAQ's!!

There is a great chart there. Plug in the numbers and you'll have a real good idea of how the gear change will affect you...

With what you have listed in your profile, about 33.5s and a manual transmission 4.56s put you in the pocket of where you want to be. If you have intent on larger tires in the future you might want to step it up to 4.88s.

Also, the mileage hit you would take from 4.56s to 4.88s (about a 7% difference) is going to be less than a single mpg.

Out of curiosity, do you have an MPG or specific fuel consumption table for the 3.8 or is that just experience or a rule of thumb?

I have been searching unsuccessfully for the SFC data for the 3.8.

Yea I have 33's but will (like all of us) eventually go bigger... I was just wanting some feedback on those with them installed to see if they are good with 33s and 35s (as a bridge between the 2)

BSFC is not something that we will easily find. If you find it please share, I would be curious, as we could back calculate HP based on consumption for different driving conditions.

Just lots of jerking around on my former long drive to work, 40+ miles each way on flat highways here in the midwest. Varied speeds from 60-75mph, gears from 4th to 6th a tankful at a time, just silly stuff to keep my mind occupied while burning 3 tankfuls a week. Nominal mpg differences from 18-2300 rpm, although sometimes not being able to maintain speeds in head/cross winds or traversing freeway overpasses. 2300-2700 able to maintain speeds with slight mpg drop (less than 1mpg).
