Default Anyone modified the Rubicon rock rails?

I have a set of Rubicon rock rails that look pretty plain to me. I've been thinking of modifying them so that they look similar to the enhanced sliders but maybe a little more agressive using extended 1.25" tubing.

Has anyone done anything like this? Would this be a good idea considering the fact that they attach to the pinch welds?

I am worried that my wife will use it as a step and put stress on the pinch welds and tear them since this is her daily driver and my weekend toy.

Looking for input.

Yep, several companies offer a DIY weld on tubing kit. Pricing seems to vary on these kits, bit it seems like any local fab shop can throw something together pretty inexpensively. As far as your wife using it as a step, unless she wighs 2 tons, you should be fine.

The rubi rails mount with the same hardware as the the stock Sahara steps so using it as a step will be fine.

I have been meaning to do this for over a year........I've just been too lazy to pull them back off the Jeep and mock something up. My wife and step daughter need a step to get in, especially when trying to climb over the front seat into the back of the 2-door. I can't bring myself to spend the coin on aftermarket due to them all pretty much being stupid expensive. I can't decide if I want to add a small hoop that sticks out, or if I want to weld together a few small cut pieces of sheet metal to form a step. All I need is time and motivation
