Default Speed related wobble (old tires AND new tires)

Guys,

I hate to even start another thread about a wobble issue but I could use some help. I've had this moderate wobble between 40-50mph for the past few months and I just assumed I needed to rebalance the tires since it was speed related. The steering wheel wobbles side to side when I pass between 40 and 50mph.

For Christmas I got a some new Toyo's and just had them mounted and balanced two days ago. Now, even with the new tires, I have the same wobble at the exact same speed. Could I really have a balance issue on a new set of tires at the exact same speed as the old ones? The old tires were 35x12.5x17 ProComp Xtreme All-Terrains. The new tires are 37x13.5x17 Toyo Open Country MT's.

I decided to get under the Jeep and check the torque on the trackbar and everything is torqued up right. I have the EVO coilover system in the front and rear so it's a lot different than the stock suspension but I had this wobble before the EVO system went on. I did the install of the front and rear EVO system myself so I do know my way around a suspension pretty well but this is annoying the hell out of me. I will have a damn near perfect riding Jeep once I resolve this!

Any thoughts guys? I know this should be something related to a tire balance issue but since the same exact thing happens at the same exact speed on a new set of tires I'm really starting to wonder! What do you think?

I actually considered that. I did use the same shop but the first set of tires were balanced with weights. This new set we used dynabeads so they never even used the balance machine on these. I think i'll go ahead and take it back to them on Monday and have them check the new tires out.

I was also considering my toe setting. I'm currently dead on at 1/8th inch toe-in and I'm considering giving a little toe-out a try. I left my caster setting alone and honestly the Jeep drives amazing except for the wobble. Damn this is frustrating!

did you ever consider that you might have a bent wheel? that would explaine the before and after new tires and the pre lift post lift. just a thought

i'm waiting for a solution to this also. Here are some random thoughts,

I have the same tires on pintlers, and I have similar issues.
Spent the day reducing my caster a bit. Had been getting a small driveline vibration at 55mph along with a tire wobble at 30 to 40 mph. Set the caster back to about 5 degrees and the driveline vib went away (was at 7). Now to figure out the wobble. I carefully adjusted the toe in to 1/8 inch also, did not fix the wobble. I'm running 32 lbs of pressure, may need to lower. I read in another post the beads were the way to go with the larger tires, and may try that next.

Someone else said there was a yellow dot on the Toyo's that should be lined up with the valve stem, but I have not verified this. My Toyo's balanced out with very little weight needed, about 2 - 3 oz per wheel. Sure would like to get rid of the wobble also.

Could it be a driveline vibe? What is your caster set at?

I had a vibe/steering shake from 45-50 when I was messing with my caster finding the sweet spot. Backed the ca's off a half turn and it went away.

Tire balance is not the only thing that causes bumpsteer (DW) in fact it is more likely to be a suspension component. than a balance issue. let me find my research and i will post it and it will explain the difference between the two and the causes and recommended fixes.

Alright guys, this is driving me absolutely freaking crazy! I've checked and rechecked the trackbar torque, checked the mounting holes and they are tight (not wallowed out at all), I've messed with toe-in and toe-out so much I'm dizzy, removed the steering stabilizer, replaced the steering stabilizer.

I have not messed with my caster setting in a while but I also havent noticed any driveline vibes. I hate to back off on it though because it's driving so good otherwise. I may give it a try though and see if it helps.

Keep in mind this is not a violent wobble like full on death wobble. This is just a steering wheel shimmy between 40-50mph. It just makes the whole driving experience seem blah! I've put a ton of money into this thing and I mean a TON! If it weren't for this wobble it would drive like a dream

Help!!!

Have you taken it into a shop and had it aligned?

I have not taken it into a shop to have it aligned. I've done the alignment myself in terms of setting caster and toe. I don't trust most shops around here to do it right with my lift and tires. They just seem to want to get it set back to factory spec and be done with it. Do you guys not agree?
