Default is stock axle inner compatible w/ chromo outer

i have inner axle, broke the outer and u-joint.

a jeep club member has offered to give me 10factory chromo outer and spicer joint w/ full circle clips. can this be used with the stock d30 inner axle shaft?

edit: i realize i would not be able to use the circle clip on the inner shaft, so could i use c clip on inner shaft and circle clip oon outer shaft?

There is not enough twist in a shaft to really matter. If you are locked, your failure point will be the weaker axle. Actually, I have purposely avoided chromolies just because it shifts your weak point from the axle to your pinion... and that is expensive to fix.

i appreciate the reply, but my question still stands. the reason for this is i busted the ujoint and stock axle shaft outer. the guy is willing to just give me the parts for free but i dont know if the stock inner shaft would be compatible with a chromo outer shaft.

i understand ur point and currently considering that as i have heard that from others.

You shouldn't have a problem with the different types of steel (4XXX chromo vs good ol' carbon) , so if the parts fit it just boils down to failure point if you over stress the shafts.

Your D30 gears are more like to fail as you strengthen your axles.

It is just part of the challenge of running 37s.

well the only reason i was considering this was just so i could get fixd for the time being so i can run 4x4 if needed. i dont plan to take any actual offroading trips untill i have a completely new axle but atleast i will have 4x4 if i need it. and the parts are free from a local club member

what concerned me was c clip on stock inner shaft and circle clip on chromo outer shaft. i think what im going to is see if i can use the c clips on the chromo side. i think grooving out the inner shaft will be too complicated to be able to fit circle clip..

oh ok, thats my bad, i didnt understand the twist thing u mentioned ealier. i should have the parts tomorrow or monday and will put everything together.

i completely agree with the weaker axle thing also that u mention, but this is just a temp fix untill i can buy a new axle. i was going to upgrade but after u and others keep mentioning the weak spots, i think i will just stick with stock axle. id rather break an axle or ujoint than that 5.13 ring or arb locker.

thanks for the reply and i appologize if i came across wrong to ur ealier response
