Default Rugged Ridge XHD rear tire carrier latch

After a night of new years eve wheeling we stopped on the trail for a minute to bring in the new year, one of my buddies comes up to me and says my tire carrier came loose and is just swinging around back there. I went and checked it out and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. So I closed it back and we went own our way. Next day upon further inspection and washing I noticed that there was no tension on the handle and it didnt fit snugly into the carrier latch like before. Anybody else had this problem? Suggestions???

Same thing happened to me. It didn't swing open, but the latch definately failed. I called customer service from Omix-Ada and they sent me out a new one. I now have a long black rubber bungee chord wrapped around the rear bumper and tire carrier at the latch just be on the safe side.

i know rugged ridge put out two versions of the handle.. I guess the first one that was in production was havin the problems you were having. They now have a new handle that is pretty secure. I was fortunate to buy mine after the "handle issue" was fixed

The first one I had is on top, and the new one they sent me is on the bottom. They look the same. I know that the original version of the RR tire carrier had a padel style door latch type of lever built into the swing arm. It look completely different from the ones shown below.
