Default Tough choice, need you advice

I am almost ready to order a set of 5 tire/rim as
305/70R16 Mud Tire + 16x8 Rim
This would cost me around 1700 dollars.

Then I saw a guy is selling his stock rubicon rim/wheel for 700 bucks
255/75/17 bf goodrich mud terrain

I can not decide which way to go now. Will the stock tire/rim
be much worse offroad compared to the customized one?

The BFGs that come with the stock RUBI wheels are good tires and would perform well off road, the only question is if you plan on lifting it later on. The backspace on the stock wheels is 6.xxx whereas you can get the aftermarket wheels at the back spacing you would like. It's up to you in the end and what you are looking to do in the future so you may want to take that into consideration. Hope this helps, and good luck.

ksk has a solid point

the flip side is you're talking about roughly a 1" difference (and actually .5" of clearance) you could put that extra grand towards lift & other goodies for the time being.

the rubi take off's wheel well. not sure what 305/70R16 tire you're talking so its hard to compare.

I think the more important question is what are you envisioning for the future of your Jeep? As in are you going to wheel it a bunch? How much lift do you want to run? etc

A short deal might not be such a savings when you decide you want to run a bigger tire. Lots of people get infected with sickness after reading this forum.

Thanks for all the helps.

I have a brand new JK 4 door. It already has 3.73 axle ratio and it is 6 speed.
My upgrade is very conservative:

keep everything stock, no lift
installed bushwacker flat fender flare
keetp stock tire/rim 225/75R16 (when I go onroad)
buy a new set tire/rim 33 inch (when I go offroad)

By doing this, the JK's warranty will be kept since dealer would not see
any change.

Therefore, my focus is find a decent offroad tire (33 inch). I am not sure
which way to go now since both choices are pretty good. I just want to know
if there is a big performance (offroad) difference between those two choices.

The aftermarket tire I am considering is GoodYear MT/R with Kevlar 305/70R16

I've probably understood you wrong, but do you intend on changing your tyres everytime you go offroad?

I'd suggest the aftermarket rims. What backspacing do they have?
Then get 33's or 35's (will need a lil more work)
Then get a 2.5" or 3" lift respectively..
Rather don't look for easiest cheapest route to do this. Just do a proper lift and if it's not finacially possible at this stage, just save up for it rather than doing a bad job on your JK. A proper setup will be much more rewarding in the end

Yes, I am planning to change tire everytime I go offroad.

Yes, the after market rim I am planning to have is 16x8 with 4.25 backspacing

My JK is stock, the only upgrade is Bushwacker Flat Fender Flare. And I am
going to add 33 inch tire without any other changes. I am pretty sure it will
work since I can see a huge space allowance under the new Bushwacker
Fender.

But I am not sure if it will rub when I go offroad and disconnect the sway bar.
Do you know?
