Default Stuck between Cooper STT's and Goodyear Dura Trac's

I'm stuck making a decision between the two. I've read great reviews on both tires so far. I've had KM'2 and Mtr Kevlars in the past looking for something different this time.

Most of my wheeling is rocks and mud, and I have to drive 3 hours to get to it, so both on road and off road performance is needed. Would also like sipeing, for the rain and little bit of snow we get here .

Price wise they look to be about the same, the Coopers a bit cheaper.
Was quoted $1076 for (4) Dura Trac's and $1027 for (4) Stt's.

So

I have the Cooper STT's in 35's and they are great all around tires, great on the road, pretty quiet and do very well in mud. Mkjeep had them as well before he got his 37's and he said they would chunk on rocks. They are two different types of tires though, with the STT being an MT and the Duratrac being an A/T. It really depends on your habits, you cant go wrong with either but MT's belong on a jeep! Good luck

I've got the STT's on my jeep and wheel it on sand and rocks aswell, upto now they've been a great improvement offroad and drive well on road aswell. There quite quiet on the road aswell and after a couple of days you wont even notice them at all.

I have noticed a couple of small chunks have broken off which would have been from wheelin on rocks, but other than that there great and they look good on the jeep too.

Just pick one. If one or the other sucked really bad, do you think either would be selling as well as they are?

And that's a good price for them. Are you only buying 4 I guess? Or just small tires?

Leaning towards the Coopers right now.

Interesting and your running Tera's!!!!

I'm not a huge Good Year Fan, but the reviews they are getting sound very positive. Just have bad memories of the GSA's, (get stuck always)!

IMO you can question the design (tread and sidewall) of Goodyears but not the quality. The GSAs have a strong road bias so they are bound to perform poorly off road.

In general Goodyear tends to have a road bias even on their off road tires and the DuraTracs are a perfect example. Even the MTR/Ks tend to compromise off road traction with the asymmetric tread to achieve better road characteristics. The DuraTracs have a low to medium void ratio, plenty of siping and relatively rounded shoulders.

I've owned the STTs and they are a good performer off road and used be a great value because they notably lower cost. I would certainly buy them again, but I like testing new tires so I rarely buy the same set twice unless it's a different size. They have a higher void ratio than the DuraTracs, less siping and larger shoulder blocks ( a more traditional off road tread like Toyo MTs though not as tough).

Neither tire has an extremely strong bias, but depending on which way you want to bias your tire performance road vs off road, I think it's a simple choice.

I have the Goodyears on now. I was torn also but was needing a good all around tire which the Goodyears were built 2 be. The Coopers did not displace the water as well as these Goodyears do. The siping is a BIG reason for the choice, great in the snow also. No slipping and sliding like the MT tires do. It all comes down to what looks better 2 you. I am getting ready 2 put the Goodyears on my other truck.
