Default why a wheel Spacer?

A newbie here, so taking baby steps - I get the idea of a lift kit (looking at the Tetraflex for example) lifting the JK 1-2 inches - but then they suggest using wheel spacers to retain stock wheels - but larger tires.

How does the item I see on the net assist that?

thanks!

Pushes your wheels out further from the axles so you have more room for articulation when running larger tires. They're pretty much tried and true.

also on some lifts, the new components (sometimes the rear sway bar link bolts) stick out far enough that even with the same tires, the factory wheels rub the bolts due to the lack of proper backspacing.

I have the stock Sahara tired and don't plan (yet) on putting new larger tires on (its new so I will do that when its time to replace)

I have a 2007 Unlimited Sahara. Ran my TF leveling kit without any spacers until the week before I got my bigger tires. No issues. I will say, however, the ride got better once the wheel spacers went on, even with the stock tires.

For 1-2 inches lift, I'd definitely go with the Teraflex leveling kit.
I use the Teraflex 1.25 inch spacers, but they will only work with stock wheels, due to the stud length.
I would suggest getting the spidertrax 1.5 inch spacers. They are lighter than the teraflex spacers and can be used with any wheels. Thats the only time I will ever suggest someone other than Teraflex.
They will improve your handling due to the wider wheelbase. You'll notice it most when turning.

There are a couple of pictures in my gallery. Stock wheels and tires with 2.5" coil lift and 1.5" spacers
