Default Anyone run 4.88s with 32s?

I have a 2010 Rubicon (auto), and as most of you know its SLOW.

In all the regear threads I searched, no one mentions regearing with stock tires for better performance.

I may go to bigger tires as the Jeep ages, but thats not a concern now.

Has anyone regeared and kept the stock tires?

Anyone put stockers on just to see after gears?

This is a daily driver, about 80 miles a day, so MPG is as much a concern as it can be with the flying brick. I'd like to stay out of the single digits.

I have 4.10s now, so maybe 4.56 or 4.88?

This isn't a cost/benefit excercise. I'm looking for your impression of the performance and any data on MPG.

The Jeep only gets heavier from here, and slower....

IMO. If you are not planing on lifting or larger tires. Stick with 4.10's. Or buy a ripp SC not my choice of SC but it's the only one on the market right now.

mpg will likely suffer if you have a relatively flat 80 mile commute. Not sure what terrain you are dealing with there

You will have very high RPM's at highway speeds with stock tires and 4.56 or 4.88 gears. There is a chart in the forum that shows the RPM's based on gear and tire size. x2 on looking to a supercharger or alternate way to create additional horsepower and torque over re-gearing unless you do plan to upgrade tire size.

When you say it's SLOW and you're looking for better performance, are you looking for it to drive FASTER or are you looking for more LOW END TORQUE?

If it's speed you're after, going to the gears you mentioned won't help - on the contrary, fuel mileage will suffer and as has been mentioned, your highway drives will end up in higher rpms. If you're looking for more low end torque, going to 4.88s or 5.13s would give you a gain there - but again, at the cost of the fuel mileage and probably not the best choice if you do consistent highway driving of 80+ miles/day. I'd like to get to 60 MPH a few seconds faster. We don't get to go much over 70 around here anyway, and MPG really drops the faster you go. Most of the daily commute happens at 50 mph or less.

I'd like to be able to merge with traffic more easily. So torque would help with getting out into traffic.

I'm not trying to set a land speed record, or save the world one gallon at a time.

I'd like it if this Jeep was close to as fast as my 7000 pound 1-ton truck.

Im running 5.13's with procomp xtreme At's the tire measures 32.25" on the Jeep. These tires arent any taller than stock but alot heavier and wider. My trip to work is only 15mi and 3mi are interstate driving.

The only reason for the taller gears is that I am going 35" or 37" in the near future. I just need to wear these out first.

I have great power but fuel suffers. Hills no problem with cruise. I have small hills - lot of flat spaces

Stock 3.73 gears @ 70mph 1900rpm - 18 mpg (lots of downshifting)

5.13 gears @70mph 2700 rpm - 16 mpg

If I take her easy 55-60mph and can squeek out 17-17.5 mpg

When the new 35's get on I will be in a more acceptable rpm range.

There is a link to a chart around this forum. I think its a Shockworks excel sheet. Its pretty spot on.

I have a JK 3.73 rear with auto and 32" stock tires. Yes I have contemplated regearing but for now opted to perform a mod that defaults OD off. If you make a change and are real happy, I could be swayed to regear. Check out two of my writeups to maybe give you some ideas and see also some of my thoughts:

I running pro comp extreme 305/65/17 on 17 x 9 wheels with 3.73 gearing and am getting 14 mpg. Before the tire swap and three inch lift I was getting 18 mpg on the stock 255/65/17 sra's.

I dont know if a gear change will help u but i definetly need to change gears. On the highway the auto trans is constantly down shifitng and I have a superchips fp.

Mounted the 305s are exactly 31 1/2 inches tall.
