Default 37's on a TF 2.5" Coil Lift, What Kind of Trimming We Lookin' At?

I have 35's on a Teraflex 2.5" coil lift and want to go up to 37's. I like the low center of gravity and to be honest cant really afford a new lift so I was trying to figure out how to run 37's on this setup. I dont disconnect when I wheel because I havent gotten new driveshafts so that will help as far as rubbing, but how big of a project am I looking at? Is it possible? Help me out on this one and Ill be hitting the garage pretty fast.

Thanks in advance guys,

~Tay

I would mention a couple things:

1) You should REALLY disconnect when wheeling. You could see other damage if you don't. You should be just fine with flexing a 2DR auto (most troubled model by lifting) fully with any 2.5 kit. Which 2.5 kit is it?

2) What 37" tire are you getting? they are all different sizes. Either way you will need more bump stops. Basically about 3in in front and rear IF you have flat or trimmed fenders..

3) What bumper do you have? I have the Smitty mid stubby and had to trim back an inch for my 37in Toyo's.

4) What width tire? I have 17x8 3.75 backspacing with a 37in 13.5in wide tire and it rubs a little on the spring perch. .75in more out on each side would be perfect.

SO all this to say, it is possible depending on how you rectify these questions.
Hope this helps!

Its a Teraflex 2.5" coil lift, I think I mentioned it in the first post, I'll have to double check.

As for what 37" tire I plan on, not 100% sure yet, I am eyeing the MTR Kevlars quite a bit as well as Toyos but havent decided yet, kida depends what is a smoother ride but most likely I'll be going with the MTRs.

As for bumpers I have a custom made front one, basically two stock ones combined and line-x'ed so yeah, Id probably have to rework those somehow.

As for wheels Ive got the stock 17" Moabs powdercoated and will be running a 12.5" tire like I am now, I have 1.5" spider spacers too

You will probably get rubbing a bit, but more than likely it will be manageable.
I LOVE my Toyo's! Mtr's are pretty true to the advertised size so it will be BIG!
Any pics? I would like to see your jeep!

Here is mine pretty much current with 4' lift and 37's...

I have the 2.5 teraflex and 35 MTR/k's and only get rubbing from the rear tires rubbing on the wheel well plastic. I had to trim my rock rails and pinch seam also so that it did not rub. 37's may be pretty tight on the 2.5 TF coil, but it could be done.

Slightly outdated pictures but the same setup, just a few color changes on the gas cans and a highlift added

So Im looking at:

-1" more of bumpstops
-pinch seam trimmed
-possible bumper trimming
-???

you can do it and i have seen it done with as little as 2" of lift BUT, you will need to hack your flares, do some body trimming and as mentioned, install taller bumpstop extensions.

having said that, i just wanted to make sure you know that unless you regear, 37's will suck what little power your 3.8L has out the door. also, even if you upgrade your front axle shafts to chromoly, you're gonna run the risk of snapping them if you do any hard wheeling.

as far as disconnecting goes, seriously, forget your drive shaft boot and do what you can to keep all four on the floor. not only will you get much better traction, you'll also be a lot more stable. at worst, a torn boot will cause your drive shaft to squeak. at worst, not being disconnected can cause you to be heavy on the gas and that can lead to broken axles, driveshafts, ring & pinions or worse.

Wow, definitely a lot of good information there, and good to know about the disconnecting, I never knew that it was that vital

also if you donot disconnect you will break the stock sway bar links. I have seen a ton of them broken on real simple trails just because they were not disconnected. This is from stock and lifted Jeeps.
