Default Help finding/creating a snorkel for hemi JK

It is apparent that there are a lot of smart people out on the forum. Has anyone come up with a snorkel setup for a hemi engine in a JK?

I love the V-8 put in last year, no regrets. I have no plans to do deep water crossings even with a snorkel. Still, the current CAI makes me nervous because I travel muddy roads that often have holes and stretches of standing water. I take it off road on occasion and get it pretty wet and muddy. Just running those I have had water splashed up on the mount platform under the open air filter. While something short of a roofline level snorkel would do for me, the current setup seems vulnerable. Unlikely as it is to happen, I would be kind of bummed to hydro this engine.

I have thought about routing an intake hose and filter up above the intake manifold under a 4” or so cowl induction setup, drawing in fresh air from towards the windshield. Not sure that would work as I would be forcing the intake air to flow through a 180 degree turn to get into the engine. I have never seen any water or mud splash on the upper engine, probably because front, side and hood clearance of the engine leaves little room for it to get there.

I do not mind cutting up a hood or two, but am not keen about cutting body sheetmetal. There is little room under the hood to route through the body or fenderwell anyway.

AEV was prototyping a snorkel last year for the 5.7, but I have heard nothing more. Even if they make it eventually, I imagine the 6.1 I have may require more flow.

Any ideas? I searched but found no one who had built anything for this. Apologies in advance if I missed an obvious thread on this subject. While this could have been posted in the xtreme section, I do not see this as an extreme mod.

I don't have an answer for you, but I wish I was in your dilema.

I just got a Hemi installed and am in the same boat as well. For me, I am looking to try and modify the new Rugged Ridge Snorkel to fit. Two things trouble me with this: The space between the exhaust and frame where the 4-inch metal pipe will go, and the "air box" component. Since Rugged Ridge's snorkel uses the factory 3.8L air box, I will have to figure something out to fit. Depending on your budget, you can always make something work. Here's is what I've seen before:

AEV does have their "Hemi air box" for use with their snorkel. You should be able to buy it online at htp://www.aev-conversions.com/shop/shop-by-category/jk-hemi-air-box-kit.html. It looks something like this:

As you can see, this is with the AEV snorkel. I was thinking that if necessary, I will try and use the top of this air box with the Rugged Ridge snorkel. However, after looking at it I do not believe it will fit, I will probably have to make some kind of water proof box myself.

I have also seen someone customize a river raider snorkel:

This does not appeal to me, as I do not want to modify where my battery sits to add a tube for a snorkel, much less cut into the sidewall.

Either way, I will be working something out with the Rugged Ridge snorkel and will be posting a write-up when I put it in. They are currently designing one for the 3.6L, and I'm checking if that will be a better fit for the Hemi. If so, then I will just have to wait a bit longer.

I dont have too much knowledge on a hemi build or snorkels. But would you be able to buy a snorkel for another vehicle(one that has the hemi in it, i.e, a ram, durango, or commander) and cusomized it to your jk. You
May only have to buy flexable pipe to move it to the correct location. Just my 2 cents.

Suscribed, getting a Hemi installed soon and hoping to use the RR snorkle. I anticipate the tube will have to be modified along with a custom air box. I was thinking of using the CAI filter in the box.

I just got word today that AEV should be releasing a snorkel within the next few weeks designed specifically for the Hemi. This one is supposed to be a different design then the one I posted above. Maybe stay tuned to see what its like?
