Default Detroit TrueTrac Locker front D30 "X"

Well, as soon as my TeraFlex S/T Swaybar System gets installed I'm getting a Detroit Truetrac Limited Slip Locker for my front Open D30. I think that'll do it for me for awhile..........Read alot about all the Limited Slips in the front D30's & I like this one the best.
The Detroit TrueTrac features a gear-type limited slip design (no clutch or friction plates to wear out). Designed for medium duty 2WD and 4WD applications, this positive gear action provides a quiet, automatic splitting of torque, without creating the steering problems associated with other traction differentials. Power transfer goes literally unnoticed by the driver.

Detroit TrueTrac Lockers in a Nutshell:

Automatic operation. No buttons or switches to manually engage
Gears Only - No clutch for friction plates to wear out
Improved design performs like standard (open) differential in normal driving
Ideal for 4WD front axles or rear axles, as well as 2WD: light trucks, SUV's, and cars
Rugged yet smooth and quiet
Torque bias ratios of 2.5 to 3.5:1 range
Easy bolt-in installation

That sounds pretty sweet. Is that the kind of locker that doesn't work well if one tire is in the air? or does it work all the time?

offtopic:
did you ever get your sliders back from SkidRow? I would love to see pictures! I'm still undecided on what i'm gonna run as far as armor and skids...

I ran an Aussie Locker in my TJ's front end for a while and I liked it a lot, I should warn you that an auto locker can be a bit tricky to drive on icy/slippery roads. If you get a lot of snow and ice in your neck of the woods, I would recommend not getting one of these.

The way I understand it is, it works like a normal Limited Slip, it try's to equal out the torque between both wheel's when slipping is detected. I know it'll be an upgrade from an open Diff. just what I want.
I think the Rock Rail's & Skid will be back from Powder Monday(hoping) . I think the Full Engine/Tranny Skid will be availble very soon.

Eddie, I read some of your stuff on your Aussie(good reading) and i thought the Detroit Truetrac would be a great way to upgrade the front 30 for open road use also.
I'm listening to you though, so limited slip in front in snow is a bad idea??? educate more before I make a mistake. I know ARB locker would be bettrer due to it's on demand Locker when you want it but to much $$$$$ for me. Wanted a poor man's Locker in the front.

Well remeber that we all have Brake Lock Diffs as well, and from my wheeling experience so far(about 6 times as of now..) they work really well, I have made it up hills that other rigs with open diffs were spinning like crazy and I only spun a little, but I could feel it it swapping from side to side, like I'd feel the front left spin, then then the front right spin, and so forth, so it kind of "walks" it up the hill.. also in the mud when i got stuck, i was spinning all tires. and I don't even have the limited slip rearend, mine are both just the Brake Lock Diffs. so if they work that good offroad, i'm sure they would handle just fine on the road. I'd drive and test for a while before you make any major decisions about lockers, unless you just save up for something like what ARB has. Just my 2 cents, but I'm really happy with the stock brake lock diffs, they work much better then I thought.

Thx for both of your input's.....I do listen.
Well, here I go again, this 58 yr old man will have to think of another upgrade, I know you did awesome with the Brake Lock Diff's in your off road vid's, very impressive. The "Evolution" Sahara did something that no one thought possible with stock running gear. Ok my 2" lift then..how'as that

What lift are you planning on? I've been really thinking about the TeraFlex 2.5" spacer kit with bumpstop extensions, and shock adapters, only like 225 on quadratec.com. Looks like the TeraFlex is the most thought through design for spacers i've ever seen. and for the price, you can't been it.

I also have more vids but have been too lazy to put them up yet:( but i'll try to find some time tomorrow, spent all day at my son's Karate testing, he is 6 and just picked up Orange belt(2nd belt)!!

That's the lift I looked at very hard, it is very well thought out. I think Full traction has a 2" Econo that's good to....don't know yet but Quadratec will get my money very soon. Yes to more Muddin Vid's I enjoy them.
That's great your little one started so young in Karate, where he'll be at 15....you better watch out then.
