Instead of a lift....what about a locker first? Which one?

Default Instead of a lift....what about a locker first? Which one?

I've been contemplating getting a lift, at first I was just going to do a BB but now I am thinking of doing a teraflex short arm kit as I really want to do this just ONCE.

Last night I started watching some JK-forum videos on Youtube.com and noticed that the jeeps with lockers flew threw obsticles while those without lockers looked like they didnt now what they were doing-sliding all over rocks, etc. So I've come to the conclusion that a small lift and locking the front/rear axles would be an intelligent compromise.

So, here is my vehicle:
2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X w/LSD in the rear. Dana 30 up front and Dana 44 in the rear. I am also running Rubicon wheels/tires (32" mud-terrains)

Here is what I was thinking, instead of blowing all my money on a lift kit alone.

-2.5" coil lift from teraflex for ($409.99)

-Aussie locker or powertrax lock-right locker for the front d30 ($300+ install)
-Ox cable locker or Eaton e-locker for the d44 ($900 + install)

So all in all, I can get a lift and lock both differentials for about $2000

Anyone have any recommendations for one locker over the other?

I really like the idea of the OX cable locker, I think it would be more reliable.

I really dont know anything about the Aussie locker or the Powertrax-all I know is that from what I've been told they are well worth the money.

You'll use your locker about 5% of the time offroad. You'll have breakover angle issues most of the time offroad. Lift first. Then I'd suggest a winch before thinking about lockers, but that's just me.

I have a 08 Rubi Unlimited...true about the break over angle issue. I did, however, do a 2" coil lift recently and am anxious to see if that helps. However, I can also attest to getting through some rocky obstacles during a run a few months...person with 3.5" lift and tires could not do some of the rocks that I ran right through with my lockers on. That said, have not used lockers for other areas like sand, mud or just rough trails...really only use them on rocks...nice to have them though!

I agree, lift, tires and winch before locker. It is amazing what these things can do without being locked. And if you have the winch, you can use that to haul yourself through sections where you need a locker. However, if you can do both, do both.
