Default Smittybilt XRC 8 winch gearbox and water...

I took the cover off my gearbox to repair the clutch handle yesterday and the thing was full of water It didn't look like there was any seal between the spool and the gears. Anybody else have this problem? Also, what kind of grease is best to repack?

I would use marine greese as it repels water to some degree. Also, make sure you seal it when putting it back together so that does not happen again.

did you have to take the winch off the bumper to take off your cover?

Yeah, I took it off. I'm not sure where I would seal it, the gap where the spool is seems to let water right in.
