Detroit True Trac or Nitro Power Lok, LSD's
I am curently running an open rear differential and I have programmed to upgrade R&P, from 3.21 to 4.11, for running 33".
Since I am going to the expense I was thinking on investing for the REAR AXLE on a Limited Slip Differential and have 3 options.
1. OE True Trac
2. Detroit True Trac and
3. Power Lok
1 and 3 are clutch type LSD's whereas 2 is a worm gear setup.
Could you please give feedback on your preferences according to your experiences with the above mentioned units.
Thanks,
Iannis

I can't comment on 1 and 3, but the Detroit Tru Trac has my vote. I have had them in the front diff for all of my LRs, and find they work really well. When you get the braking down to get them to transfer power where you need it, it is amazing how well they work. They work really well with traction control as well. With the BLD on the JK, it would be as if you almost had a locker. I also like the idea that they have no clutches. All clutch type LSDs will eventually wear out (the clutches). Not saying that a TruTrac will last forever, but longer. Also, they use regular old gear oil, no additives necessary. While I have never had the others, the Detroit TruTrac would be my choice.
All that being said, and it will probably be repeated by others, if you are going to replace the diff anyway, why not consider a locker instead of an LSD? A Detroit locker will run about the same price as a TruTrac. Granted, you need to consider if you need/want a Detroit back there. For a little extra cash, you might be better served with a selectable locker. Just something to think about.

I will be putting the Detroit Truetrac in mine when I re-gear, hopefully this spring. I have some friends that run them on daily drivers and love them. They say you don't notice them on the street and off road they are almost as good as full lock.
We have run Detroit TrueTracs on our 2004 Wrangler for 4 years in some very difficult terrain and with a fair share of freeway miles. They have performed flawlessly, and I would recommend them as the next best think to a selectable locker like an ARB.
Also, with an automatic and 33s, you will want 4.88 gears if your 4th gear ratio is 0.69 like in the United States.

Spent quite a long time thinking about it and in the beginning I was thinking for 4.56 however due to the d30 up front I feel more comfortable with a OE approved as an upgrade 4.11. Just to be sure that the axle can handle it.
I agree with planman on the 4.88 and put some 35's on it. I really didn't think I wanted anything bigger than 2.5" with 33's but at the last minute change to a 4" with 35's and counldn't be more pleased. Mine is a daily driver and it drives great. I've heard a lot of people say they should have gone bigger and never heard of anyone wanting to go smaller.

Not sure where you got you're information but I don't believe it's correct. One of my good friends is running 35's with Truetrac front/rear and love's it. When he got the Jeep it already had them and his plan was to switch them out with selectable lockers in the future. Now he has decided to keep them after spending some time on and off the road. He told me they were not noticeable at all on the road and off road they were very close to full lock. JP magazine had a great issue on lockers last year and had some good things to say about the Truetrac also. Selectable is the best way to go but the Truetrac is half the price and will definitely be better than an open dif. off road. Besides I don't want to throw ton of money in a D30.
I have spent hours reasearching that locker. Look on other fourms you will see with larger tires over 32" the unit will not preform well. Lots of complaints with it with people running 35's. Get on utube and search you will even find video's showing in the mud only one tire spining.
edit: i'm in the same boat as the person above. Going to regear and figured I would throw a locker in while the diff is apart. After hours of stressfull searching. I have decided on saving up for a arb locker. I have read to many posts in jeep forums about how the truetrac suks with 35 inch tires. Everything I buy I research the sh!t out of it. And arb seems the way to go. Cost more but you get what you pay for.
OP do some research on truetrac and see what you find. The only people who love them are running smaller then 32" tires. For 400 more you can get a arb and compressor.
if you plan on staying with 33's it might be ok. But I'm not going to take the chance with it.
