Default Re-gear with 37's?

I was looking at tires for my JK and didn't see the tires I wanted. I want to go with 35x12.5x17 Goodyear MT/R's with Kevlar but I didn't see them in that size. The closest they are offered in is a 37" tire. I have 4.5" of lift on my JK so I think that should be plenty with a set of 1.5" wheel spacers to prevent rubbing. My question is this. Will I have to re-gear the axles with a 37" tire? If so, what ratio would be recommended? I am trying to maintain streetability in the Jeep as well as increase off-road performance.

Thanks in advance!

I have a 4.5" lift and the same 35" tires that you refered to. You want to re-gear as it will bring back the the power you lost with the increase in tire size. I put 5:13's in and it made a world of difference.

I figured I would have to re-gear, but a 5-series gear? Wow. I figured something like a 4.88 at most. What did it do to your gas mileage (or lack of gas mileage)?

Thanks dragon! That's the one!!! That isn't a bad price on them either. If I do get them I will definitely buy all 5. I saw a lifted green JK around town yesterday with what looked like 37's...and the factory spare hanging off the back.

Regear regardless of tire size is my opinion. I have a 4.5" lift with 37's and I have 5.13 gears to go with it all. I do not regret regearing and I suggest it to everyone!

The FAQ's are generally a good place to start. Recommendations as well as a good RPM chart for you to plug tire sizes and gear ratio's into...

I JUST ordered 35x12.5x17 Goodyear MT/R w/ Kevlars from discount tire.com. If you order 5, they give you a $50 discount because of JK Forum. (order by phone) They said they had plenty in stock. I received mine in less than 3 days.

Free shipping, $80 mail in rebate right now, $50 off 5. The best price you'll find ANYWHERE. Ask for Wyatt - extension 51871

I'm in no way associated with them, they just gave me great service.

If install the 37's with 4.88s and then drive a JK with 37s and 5.13+ then you will WOW, I should have gone lower.
