Default Brake Light on Tire Carrier

I installed my XRC Bumper and Tire Carrier today. I want to use the thrid brake light kit that they provide but the wiring for the light is not long enough. Should I splice in some more line or is there an extender that I can use? Is there somehting else that I am not thinking of?

Thanks for the help.

You should be able to just splice in some more wire. At least that is what I am planning on doing once I get some time to do it.

08unlimited: Splicing (with shrink tubing) should work fine. You can open up the tailgate and disconnect the factory harness and add wire to it INSIDE the tailgate. I did have trouble pulling it throught the grommet in the gate though.

Off topic but here is the light I mounted above the light AEV sent me. I feel your pain!

The factory wire will reach, you just have to re-route it, no cutting or splicing needed.

On the back of the factory 3rd light you will find four small torx screws that hold the plastic light to the factory carrier. Remove the screws and the light comes right off.

The XRC light bracket has two pieces. The lower part has to be installed before you mount the tire holder bracket to the carrier because it sandwiches between the two.

The upper part of the new bracket that comes with the bumper is attached to the factory light with the 4 factory torx screws that you previously removed.

The next step is to bolt the upper and lower bracket together. The hardware for this step is sometimes missing. I used some small bolts and nuts I had siting around.

Crappy cell phone pics to follow....
