Default AEV Lift Questions

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go with the 3.5 AEV premium lift kit as soon as they're back in stock ( told it should be a couple more weeks ) I just wanted to see if any of you guys are running this lift and if so what everyone thinks of their kit.

The lift would be going on a stock sahara unlimited. Is there anything I will need to go along with the lift to make it driveable? I plan on putting some 35's on it as soon as I have the cash, but I will have to run the stock wheels and tires for a few months.

Is there anything I should plan on picking up with this kit? I know with 35's I'll need to regear but is there anything else I'm missing? AEV sayst it's pretty much a complete kit but I'd hate to have to shell out the cash and watch it sit in boxes in the garage while I have to wait for a bunch of other parts to get that sucker on and working properly!

Do a little searching and you will find a lot of discussions about this kit. There are quite a few debates about the kit.

Dunno...think someone mentioned sway bars somewhere when I considered this kitm. I went to the local Jeep dealer and drove one installed in a JK....nice ride...pricey, but nice!

I've got the 3.5" premium kit and I'm very happy with it. The only thing that didn't come with the kit that probably should is some adjustable lower control arms. The kit comes with cam bolts and I used them for about six months, but the caster was just not adjustable enough. I had no issues with the cam bolts but some have experienced loosening. I'd get the premium kit for sure because the steering correction makes quite a bit of difference. Another thing you might consider is longer brake lines. The kit comes with relocation brackets that are ok but longer lines would be better.

I'm not going to give you the standard line "I couldn't be happier with ...." because everything can be improved.

For instance, the AEV premium uses cam bolts to adjust the Caster angle. Although cam bolts work and obviously the factory believes in them, they are far from optimum for adjusting Caster. They tend to loosen and they provide limited adjustment range.

I added a set of adjustable CAs to my AEV 3.5" lift and the ride and handling are outstanding. I suggest you get a set and avoid cutting out the pseudo-knockouts in your Front lower CA brackets.

Enjoy your lift when you install it.

Great kit! Chuck out the bolts and get Lower CA's...
Regear if you have the means.. It makes a big difference
I went overboard and basically just changed everything so it's absolutely spot on. But you can get away with less..

Getting closer to pulling the trigger on the AEV premium lift. Can you all say what specific LCAs you chose in addition to the kit?

Thanks,
Ken

You might want to go out to their website and look at the kit, or at least check some of the 'newer' aev lift threads. (you realize that this one is over a year old, right?)

They no longer use Cam Bolts, and have replaced them with a drop bracket. Like the Cams, there are pros and cons to the bracket, so do a little research before pulling the trigger.

I'm with you, I've been thinking about this lift, but was hesitant due to the cam bolts.

Will check out their site and see what improvements they've made.
