3 deg Castor - What does this mean?
Hi all
I have a diesel RHD unlimited. I have just installed a lift and received a 63mm lift in the front, 2.5inches. I had a wheel alignment done and found i have 3 deg of Castor. The suspension specialist informned me this was dangerous, and would increase my chance of DW. I knew that at 2 to 2.5" i may have to buy LCA's but was waiting to after the lift to see if they are actually needed. The question is , is 3 deg of castor actually dangerous, or does it just give me that vague feeling in the steering. The truth is that the steering feels better than before???? So what does 3 deg actually mean. i understand stock is about 4.7 so not a lot of difference. I am running stock 245/75/17 tyres, but will upgarde to 33''s in time.
I favour he JKS lowers. Are the JKS uppers short enough to dial back this Castor.
Thanks
Tom

well your steering will be more responsive but you will also have some bumpsteer.
look at caster this way. lets compare a chopper motorcycle, one that is all stretched out. got a mental picture? now compare it to a sports bike and think about which one will be easier to turn and maneuver. in an over exaggerated way that is caster.
i dont know if i would call 3 deg dangerous but i definitely would not want it. on a side note you want your control arms longer than stock when lifting. when you lift your jeep and keep the controls arms stock, it pulls the axles closer to the center of the vehicle. so to get where you need to be they should be longer than stock.

Stock caster is +4.2 so you're just barely off and that not that big of a deal. At worst, you might feel like you have flighty steering at highway speeds. Adjusting your caster with a bit more angle is nice to have but what you have now is not dangerous.
I think you questions are regarding Caster have been answered.
Regarding the JKS arms, I think your choice of JKS CAs is a good one, but I would stick with your original choice of installing the lowers they provide a wider range of adjustment and are easier to install.

Thanks all. I understand what castor is, was really looking to know if this is dangerous, do i definately need LCA's, will 3 deg contibute to DW. So thanks for your response. Some 4wd shops have suggested "if you get castor vide then change then" I would rather prevent it, than find out the hard way. So i am comfortable now, but will buy some in the long turn, probably when i buy larger (33" only) tyres. My camping trips are sometimes 500 miles from home, so not good finding out 500 miles from home that u have DW.
