Is it worth the money????
I recently joined this forum to learn more about the JK. I have owned a 1974CJ-5 and a 198 2CJ-7, but they serviced me as recreational vehicles. The JK will be my daily driver and I have started shopping around for good deals. Anyway... one of the dealers around here offers an off-road package. I want to know if it is worth it. Particularly:
1. Is the extra money in-line with the products cost, both purchasing and installation?
2. Are the products specified quality goods?
3. Is it worth the extra $1,451.
Here is an example of a jeep they have there.
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, seems like a fully loaded S model. The sticker price is $28,870.
The off-road package includes the following:
*35" x 12.50" off road tires (Dick Cepeck)
*Upgraded chrome ultra rims
*2 1/2" coil spring rough rider lift kit
*Chrome Mopar nerf bars
*Chrome tail light guards
*Chrome Grill Inserts
The nerf bars and wheels are also offered with a black option.
With the installed options, they are asking $30,321.

Rough Rider lift kit? Sounds like a brand of condom. Unless you love chrome, I wouldn't get none of that, those nerf bars and rims will get crapped up off-road. I'd go for getting a better price on an X then put your own mods on it. They'll probably wanna stick to that $30,000price tag with the aftermarket bling. Not trying to tell you what to do, but why have that built into your financing. You should shop around abit, find an S pkg deal for 23-26,000 and buy your own mods. If you plan on doing much off-roading, you'll end up ditching the chrome stuff anyway. Even with the black option, those nerf bars aren't good for off-road.

Now, the value part - everything you mentioned after the DC Tires adds NO value to me - now that's personal preference. Unless you're into chrome, it sounds like here's too much bling on the Jeep. If that was a Hummer, so be it - a Jeep? To me, that's blasphemy

I'd personally find a clean slate aka an unmodified JK that has the features you want - be it an X, Sahara, Sport, Rubi - and then, mod it to your likings. Choose the wheel, tires, mods, lift, etc. that YOU want... and go for something recognized that's name brand... the last thing you want going wrong is your lift going out and having no clue who makes it - could be a bad and costly mistake. Just my

PS: Maybe ironic of me to say this working in the automotive business - but you NEVER EVER pay sticker....
